I own a real old 80gb PS3 fat and I cannot even play Beyond: Two Souls for half an hour without my PS3 shutting off. It shuts off in the same manner as it would overheating. Except it isn't overheating, it gets barely warm. I've played with two copies of Beyond and the problem persists.
I know I can play recent games without this problem such as Metal Gear Rising.
Is it possible the older PlayStation 3 models are not able to run Beyond: Two Souls? It might be the case if you've already been through two copies of the game. With a game like Beyond: Two Souls the entire experience is very cinema-heavy while other newer games by comparison are not.
Have you contacted Sony about this problem? You may need to have your system looked at or get a new one all together. Not just a larger harddrive but a Slim model, which are more resistant to the changing occurrences of technology.
Bad news my friend, your Fat PS3 is slowly dying from the YLOD and it's only gonna get worse. How do I know this? I played Beyond Two Souls and noticed that my Fat PS3 died right after I beat the game and since then it hasn't been the same. It started with that game and it got worse because even games on the harddrive it'self started doing the same thing, so I was saying it's the harddrive and I went out and replaced the harddrive but the exact overheating issue came back so it's the system. More than likely it's because there's a lack of CPU/GPU paste but I've heard that's not a permanent fix to the problem so I'm just going to buy a new ps3 soon. I hope your issue gets resolved.
I think this might be our problem.
how can they tell if it's a dual layer disc?
putting it in the computer? usually they cover the markings so you can't see anything..
i don't have the old ps3.. but maybe give it some more ventilation space
