If you have ever played Battlefield 3 online, then you already have an Origin/EA account.  In fact, if you have ever played any Origin/EA game online, then you already have an Origin/EA account.

Most players don't know this, and I don't blame them.  It is easy to miss.  To the best of my knowledge, Origin/EA is the only company that requires console players to have an account with them in order to play their games online.

You can check out your Origin/EA account by logging into the https://www.ea.com/profile/ website.

If you want to know more about the Origin/EA account system, then look for the post entitled “Overview Of The Origin / EA Account System (version 2)”.  This post was made on Friday, February 17, 2012/Saturday, April 7, 2012, in the following thread.

Try the https://www.ea.com/profile/ website.  I *think* that is what he really meant.

If you want to logon to the battlelog website directly, go to the http://battlelog.battlefield.com/ website.  I know most of us already know that, but I thought it would be helpful (I can remember when I was a newbie to this game).

Re: How To Get A Clan Tag in BF3

Just to mention it here, Battlefield 3 has "platoons" instead of "clans".  Same idea, different name.

It would also be helpful to note that Battlefield 3 does NOT require that platoon names be unique.  Also, Battlefield 3 does NOT require that platoon tags be unique.  So, two truly different platoons could actually have the exact same name and the exact same tag.  I have personally tested this myself.

If you create your own platoon, you will be the only member in it (to start out with, at least).  This is true even if you use the exact same name and tag of some platoon that already exists.

If you want to truly join a platoon that already exists, then you have to apply (or be invited).  Just search for the platoon's name (on the platoon tab on the battlelog website) and then click on the apply button.

It is also worth noting that you can belong to many platoons.  Battlefield 3 does not limit you to being in only one.  If you belong to multiple platoons, then you can make one of them your primary platoon.

Strangely enough, joining a platoon does NOT automatically mean that platoon's tags will be added to your name.  Even designating a platoon as your primary platoon will NOT do this.

To have platoon tags added to your name, you have to directly edit this option.  Follow the steps below to do so.

1) Login to the Battlelog website.  This is the http://battlelog.battlefield.com/ website.  If you need help on logging into this website, then refer to the http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/Battlefield-Series/Battlefield-3-Information-On-Logging-Into-... post.

2) Click on your Origin / EA ID.  This will be shown across the top bar of the website, in about the center.

3) Click on "Edit profile" which will be towards the left.

4) Under "Soldier settings" enter the platoon tag you want to use (the website calls it a "clan tag" even though you'd think they'd use platoon tag on their own website!).

5) Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the screen.

Since you directly edit your own platoon tag, you can make it just about anything you want.  It doesn't have to be the tag of a platoon you're part of.  It doesn't even have to be a platoon tag that actually exists (exists as in it comes from a platoon that actually exists).

This is a nice visual presentation.

There is one correction to be made.  The instructions say to log into Battlelog using your PlayStation Network (PSN) account email address and PSN account password.  This is NOT correct.  You must login using your Origin / Electronics Arts (EA) account email address and your Origin/EA account password.  These MAY not be the same.

Also, strictly speaking, PSN accounts are no more.  All PSN accounts have been converted to Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) accounts.

For simplicity's sake, some people use the same email address for their PSN/SEN account and their Origin/EA account (and may use the same password as well).  However, these do NOT have to be the same.  I personally know people who use different email addresses (and everything works fine).  I personally use different passwords for these two accounts.

Understanding the fundamental point that your Origin/EA account is entirely separate from your PSN/SEN account will help you greatly.

This is really a great visual aid, and I commend kotaco for it.  I just don't want people to be confused about their PSN/SEN account and their Origin/EA account, especially since I know how much trouble that can cause people.
