The DualShock 4 much like the DS3 has a reset button underneath that restores the controller to factory settings. It looks like a pinhole underneath the L2 trigger, and next to screwhole. You can use a paperclip to push the button and you can try re-registering the DS4 to your console.

If resetting the DS4 to factory settings did not help, you can also try the various ps4 safe mode options:
If you are updating the system firmware from a USB drive in safe mode make sure you have correct system update. There are two available:
1) 300 MB day 1 update http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps
2) 800+ MB full installer (especially if you have replaced the hard drive) http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps
If safe mode doesn't work I'd suggest contacting the retailer you purchased it from for a replacement.
If you cannot contact your retailer for a replacement, please contact support for more troubleshooting/repair options at http://us.playstation.com/support/contact_options/
haveing the same problem and the reset button works sometimes but not really.. i dont know if its the controller or the consol but if u contact support they can help you because if u bought the controller with the system most likely you got a warrentee on the console from sony which also covers the controller and you can get a new one.. the only thing with mine is that it works for about 10 hours before crudding out again for about 6 hours
This did not help me. I have two different controllers and my problem is occurring for both, so contacting the retailer for a replacement is not an option. This is a issue with my console.
9:53 AMI purchased a ps4 and it has been nothing but problems since I took it out the box. the controllers for some reason will not work. I used the USB cable and everything and still nothing. sometimes the controller works for about 10 minutes and then disconnects from the PlayStation and a message pops up saying press the PS button. when I press the PS button nothing happens except for the light Bar flashes white. I let both controllers fully charge and this is still happening. I then call sony just to wait an hour and a half to be told that they cannot help me because they were not trained handle a problem like that. so I go to their forum online just as their automated response suggests to get help from their so called specialist for no one to respond to me. what the f*** is sony doing!!!
I was able to play at first, then I turned the system off. When I turned it back on, nothing, only connects while wired in safe mode. Currently been on hold for one hour waiting to talk to Sony...
For those who have not tried it yet if resetting the DS4 to factory setting did not help, you can also try the various ps4 safe mode options:
