I was also looking into getting this headset for my current PS3 and PS4 when I get one this summer. I found the Skullcandy PLYR 1 on Amazon for $135 and thought it would be a good buy for my first headset.

Is this the chate cable you are reffering to?:

The chat cable is no longer needed, Firmware 1.7 for PS4 added a sensitivity option which was the issue with the Mic. The chat cable boosted the sensitivity but again, it's no longer needed. Once you get your PLYR1's, go to Settings=> device settings=> Audio settings=> Microphone Level to boost the sensitivity.

That's great! Can't wait to get a pair of these for my upcoming birthday. It is going to be a totally different transition from surround sound speakers to a headset.

Another question if you are so willing to answer it:

Does this headset have voice playback?

Hi mate, all is going well with the PLYR 1, its very good, although i do have a question.  When I use the headset without the chat cable, sound comes out of the TV and the headset, any idea how to stop this, i only want the sound coming through the headset (chat audio and game audio), im sure its just a setting or something but ive messed about with the settings a bit and cant find how to fix it, cheers

I run into the same issue and the only solution currently is to just lower the volume of the TV. Sorry I can't be more helpful in that regard Smiley Sad. I'll pass this on to the right personnel though.

Happy early birthday. I hope you like your headset. Mine is on the 20th. I'm hoping to talk my girlfriend into a pair of Sennheiser HD558's which Amazon has for $122.99.

I don't believe there is a way to stop the audio from coming out your tv/stereo while using the headset. Mine is the same way. I have my optical out on the base go directly to my audio system, so I just turn off my surround sound when using the headset. The base just uses a simple pass-through so anything coming in via the optical audio in, comes out the optical audio out. Only way to have no sound coming out the tv/stereo without turning the volume down would be to unplug the optical out all the time.
