Played around 4 hours, 20%ish in, here are my thoughts:
-The jump from the first game to the second was far greater and more different than two to this one.
-Saving in this game is AWFUL
-Weapon crafting is daunting, but fairly easy and awesome (made a rivet shotgun w/ concentrated force gun blast, without even trying)
-Space is beautiful and scary
-Necromorphs look very neat
-Story and bad guy are pretty intriguing.
I am disappointed that I have not had the chance to pick this one up yet, $
. I will be getting it soon, despite my wife's begrudging my video games.
So the weapons modding is tricky? I have to say, long before it came out, with the article in GI, I liked the idea of the combo weapons. It seems like a great idea, that would save time and your "life" when having to use multiple approaches to an enemy. Not that cycling through weapons was that hard, but it seems, based on description, you can essentially carry "2x" as many weapons with the combo.
Saves are "awful"? Are they few and far between, or is it merely the locations in reference to the objectives?
I will have it, soon!![]()

Moble, the problem with saving is that it's auto-save now and not dedicated save points. There is a "save and quit" option, but that only saves your inventory and throws you back to the last checkpoint (I lost 20 minutes once because of that)
Weapon crafting is awesome (you can only carry 2 guns now but with 2 attachments each it still equals 4 weapons) it can take a bit of time but its fun.
The only thing I don't like about the game is that it's not scary at all
Good info, thanks. Didn't know they were limiting the "number" of weapons to be carried though. I guess, when you can go dual, it makes up for it.
Have to say, I will probably not be a fan of the auto save. I always felt a sense of accomplishment, when finally making it to a save console, barely clinging to life.
Any thoughts on that, whether it had anything to do with the infinite stock pile glitch in DS2? If you are not aware of it, I can explain, as shortly as I can. It was a cheap trick, but it did make up for the capacity of supplies they rigged for DS2, especially on the Harder levels of play.

I had a whole rant written out, but my phone was being a pain, and Winscar summed it up nicely anyways.
Weapon crafting isn't really that difficult. I think daunting is the perfect word. You've got around 8 different parts to any given weapon to consider, and multiple ways to to fire, effects, and descriptions to think about. It's a bit of a hot mess, but absolutely functional and very fun to use.
Haven't played anymore, but some more thoughts:
-Universal ammo counts are confusing. On a clip of 20, I get 242 shots for my Negotiator rifle, with each shot being worth 11?
-Suits seem to be entirely cosmetic now
-Impossible difficulty is impossible
-Impossible difficulty is impossible
I have to say I have never been a fan of this. I love to play a game at its hardest level out of the box, but when it becomes infuriatingly impossible to even get through one level, I think it has gone too far.
I started DS2 on the hardest level, and got to a point in the game (Gymnasium), where it became near impossible to get through, without changing the difficulty level mid game. Of course, you forfeit trophies at that point, but who cares if it seems you will never get through it anyway?
I also knew, once I completed it, I would have a cache of weapons and ammo to go back through the harder level, once I completed the game, so it was not that big of a deal. What of those games that don't allow this feature though. Simply aggravating.
While I may not fit the ranking of "hardcore" gamer, I would say some of the "Insane" difficulty levels some producers come up with are Redonk!
