How much alike is the Fallout 3 map compared to the real DC?

I'm going to D.C. this saturday..... yes I will be a tourist :smileytongue:

Anyway I just wanted to know how much of Washington D.C. is real in the game.

Is there really a Springvale elementary school? Stuff like that.. I know they might have changed the names of some areas because it might be a trademark or something. But I know there is a Takoma park... just heard it on the news...

Can't wait for my trip though

Well in the real DC area there is a park called Rock Creek Park, and in the game they borrowed the name and turned it into Rock Creek Caverns. (Where you find all of the kids)

I heard most of the DC area is the same (e.g. Lincoln Memoral, and Washington Monument) but they may have made some up to make more place. It is hard to figure out since half of it is destroyed.....

Bethesda did use alot of the same names from the Dc area in the game but not actually in any certain order.. Obviously the national monuments are there, some of the street names and such are real as well as some of the other locations.. I mean I highly doubt there is a republic of dave in DC :smileytongue:

you also have to consider that the game takes place in a possible future somewhat.

so maybe they got a little creative

Besides all the rubble and the post apocalyptic look, it should look somewhat similar.

Re: How much alike is the Fallout 3 map compared to the real DC?

After playing fallout it was my decison where to go for vacation. I picked DC. So I tried to pay attention to how similar it was to the fallout world. Lots of the outlaying towns are there, like fairfax, Olney, some to name. I noticed some streets names were the same, the shape of place is similar. I saw no Springvale though, but that dosnt mean anything. Obviously DC in game is a lot smaller then the real one. And in real life DC there is major highways that go straight downtown. I forget the name but its a highway that ends right infront of the captial buildings at the end of the mall. but i would say its roots are well estiblished ingame.

Is the fallout3 dc portion of the map laid out identically in it's geography?
