Welcoming Committee v 2.0

Welcome.  Bear with us.  This is a work in progress.

This thread you are looking at now will no longer be actively monitored.

Here is the link to new Welcoming Committee thread in Forum Support.

http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Forums-Support/Welcome-to-the-forums/td-p/4300139...

It's one thing to SAY welcome to the forums.  It's another thing entirely to welcome someone by solving their immediate problem instantly.  People remember that.

Newcomers - need help getting around this forum?

We would be more than happy to help.

(original post)

I think it's about time to start back up the Welcoming Committee.  It would make sense advertising in this board, rather than trying to send PM's out to all the new users as they register.

I was a member of the old Welcoming Committee.  If any of the newcomers have any questions about the forums and they can't find the answers elsewhere, you can shoot me a PM and ask.  If any of the other veterans would like to volunteer as a guide/mentor for the newcomers, please post here and I will add your name to the list.  It would be a great opportunity to share your wisdom and experience with the next generation.

UPDATE

What are we looking for when considering members for the Welcoming Committee?  In increasing order of importance:

a. You have been here "a while".

b. You are familiar with the forums, the people, the practices.

c. You are available often to present advice and guidance.

d. You are willing to help our newest PSN users.

e. You already offer people helpful advise.

If you are interested in joining the Welcoming Committee, please post your intentions in this thread.  Please include any additional relevant information.  We will consider your entry and review your post history.  If we feel you'd be a good addition to the team, your name will be added to the list above.

As a member of the Welcoming Committee, we expect you to maintain a positive attitude when welcoming the newest PSN users to the forums, and helping them with their problems.  Allow your positive attitude to become infectious.  Be positive, professional, helpful!

Keep in mind some of them may have been frustrated for weeks looking for answers to a persistent problem.  They may be upset.  You can be the reason they are no longer upset or frustrated.  Take them by the hand and help them get the most out of their experience here.

Good idea!

I wasn't really aware of the old "Welcoming Committee" as was so I know very little about it or who was on it, I am also not sure what or who you consider to be a "Veteran", whether it be solely judged on DOJ, post count or a mixture of those & some other variables, would I like to be considered as a "mentor/Guide" for newcomers? yes I  would, I'll leave it up to you if you think I'm qualified ior not.

Good idea though Dr!

Anyone who is able to reply to newcomers and explain how to act around here, how to post, what not to do, etc.

You definitely qualify.

No, thank you for agreeing to help.  People often undersell themselves and feel unworthy of being called a veteran.  You shouldn't.  I've seen you around helping others.

The previous Lithium controlled forums had a New User Guide. It detailed all of the forum features, tools and navigation, basically.

Gotcha.

There are a number of stickied Threads at the top of the page for this Forum, one of them is the Forum Guidelines one which contains some useful information, he link is below,

http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/Forum-Information-and-Help/Forum-Guidelines/m-p/37571295/mess...

There is also one titled "Rules of Conduct", another pretty useful Thread.

I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly that you're probably already aware of these, they are of some help to both new new & experienced users alike but still not what you are referring to exactly?

Perhaps the Dr or someone else can help you put, sorry.
