I believe the flying thing that Kratos fights is the Manticore; check out the image below which was one of the concept art rewards during the Rise of the Warrior game.

The Manticore was described as having a lion's body and a human head with rows of teeth like a shark (it's kinda like the Persian version of the Egyptian sphinx) but aspects of the creature seem to vary from story to story; some tales mention it having horns or wings or both, and having the tail of a dragon or scorpion... at least that's what I read online.

This is probably SSM's spin on the creature. Awesome trailer overall!

Has anyone noticed when he attacks the furry she only has 1 arm? I can only speculate at this time but I am pretty confident that Kratos took that off.
