Question

I'm not sure if I'm missing it or what, but did they do away with qualifying for pole positions? If yes, why?

My Playstation Collection consists of:
152 PS3 games - 564 PS2 games - 72 PS1 games - 202 PSP games - 11 PS Vita games

I don't believe there ever was any actual "qualifying" in GT5.

Although, the game kind of keeps track of fastest times in free run, and can start the race in that order.

It can slao start races based on last race finish, or inverted field from last race.

But not an offficial "qualifying mode".

Qualifying hasn't been around since GT2 or GT3. I wish PD would bring it back.

I liked qualifying. It gave me a chance to run a few laps to reacquaint myself w/ that car on that track. Especially back when the tracks were new(ish).

GT4 was the last time there was anything close to qualifying, where quick practice laps allowed you to start up front. It seems that the designers want to keep the challenge of racing from last to first in place instead of allowing you to start from the front and walk away and lap the field. My observations from the past 3 GT games.

That's understandable, but in the tradition of racing I would have love to see it make a comeback. I ALWAYS ran the qualify laps... Except those times where I took the Pikes Peak on that circle trackin GT3. Smiley Tongue

I agree, I think this is PD's concept now, always make you win from last place.

Of course if the game was programmed with adaptive AI, that wouldn't need to be the case, the AI would give us a challenge no matter what position we started in.
