I might buy a 5.1 system for Christmas.

Anyone recommend the one they use? I've got about £200-250 British Pounds?

Most that I look at seem to come with some kind of DVD player / controller. . .can you not buy them just by themselves? Do all the 5 / 6 speakers cables lead to a single connection that I plug into the PS3 (or Do I plug the speakers into the TV) I'm confused lol.

all the speakers will plug into the receiver, which is plugged your PS3 and/or the tv

Is the receiver a tiny little box that I can dangle behind the thing my PS3 and TV (or is it a big unit that will need to be placed on the actual desk with the PS3 - if it's a big unit I'll have to miss out on 5.1

most receivers are slightly larger than a half height desktop tower. So you would need to prop it on a desk/entertainment center

I thought you could plug the speakers directly into the PS3 somehow.
