A little history on Spetsnaz. During the days of the USSR the Russians had a special forces (RSF-russian special forces) unit called Spetsnaz which literally ment "special purpose forces". They began as a regiment of 655 men established by a Eugene Podkolzin during WW2, By the 1950's that number grew into the thousands. By the Cold War Era the KGB started using Spetsnaz for covert ops much like the USA's Green Berets. Although not much is even known today about the Spetsnaz during the Cold War, rumours say that their training was often brutal and some had even died. Only the strongest survived to become part of the Spetsnaz special forces!
