Doom 3 FAQ

,
,
First and Foremost, I predict the release date for Doom 3 will be May 30th.
,

,

,
Lets Start with the Physics Engine
,

,
,
The Doom 3 physics engine wil be a modified version of the Havok 2.0 engine. Carmack did a few tweaking that I did not know about but what I can tell you is that the Physics engine is VERY similiar to the HL 2 physics engine. Everything, every object, person etc has his own weight and is 100% interactive. You will need to use the environmnts to get through many monsters in this game . This is a scanned image of an example of how a box is exploded in the game.

Onto the Graphics/Technology
,

,
As some of you know, EVERY id software game uses the latest technology to make the game look the best in the competition. Meaning the engine uses normal mapping, radiosity lighting, dynamic lighting, etc. The most fascinating thing about this game is that it will be the first game with Per-Polygonal hit detection and the first game with no predetermined light sources within the game what-so-ever unlike STALKER or HL 2 which still have predetermined light sources here and there. You will need high-end PC's to play the game for the full experience, meaning Sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS with 6.1 channel surround sound, GeForce 5950 Ultra / ATI Radeon 9800XT, 3.0 GHZ pentium 4 etc. The outdoor environemnts arent to be taken foolishly, the engine can render outdoors almost as good as indoors.
,
,
Whoever says this game looks like plastic obviously has no sense of imagination, EVERY thing in 2145 wont look plain old and ugly like bricks, wood etc.
,

,

,

,
Gameplay
,

,
To put it this way, the Doom 3 gameplay will be simple but NOT run & gun all the time. You have to solve these puzzles, you have to use the environmments to get through some enemies you may be fighting your way through with NPC's sometimes. There will be side missions, meaning you will come across people asking fo help with something(long explanation so I will make it short on this one), they might need help getting their personal stuff and you WILL get a reward-There are many humans to interact with in DooM 3; some are friendly and some are hostile but it is left to you to figure out who is friend and who is foe. A scientist may help you access restricted areas or he may tell you to retrieve a plasma
conduit to reactivate a teleporter. Janitors may have the security cards you need as well. . The game is basically made to scare the hell out of you, monsters will bash their way threw walls, doors etc unexpectedly. Imps will crawl around walls and jump at you, many of the times the game will increase tension without combat, For example you may find yourself walking through an area of the UAC when all of a sudden the lights go out and you are lost in complete darkness. You hear sounds of something crawling in the ceiling panels above you. You pull your flash out but then can’t carry your gun. You stumble around the darkness trying to find the exit as the sounds of demons grow louder. You can almost feel them in the room with you but you still can’t see anything. Then without warning the lights come back on and you find you are surrounded by demons all of them bent on destroying you. The monsters will sometimes team up(such as zombies), the zombies may even grab a weapon if one is near them and shoot you/slash you down, remember when I said that everything in doom 3 is interactive?Well, they may even throw things at you. There will be 11 weapons from what I know and they are...

,
Well, I think thats enough of gameplay talk, you will be satisfy
,

,

,
Sound
,

,

Multiplayer
,

Replay Value
,

,
With a Level Editor and thousands of fans waiting to make a mod on this game, there is no reason why this game will last a long time with you.

Re: Doom 3 FAQ

Too bad it's probably going to require like a GeForce 8 graphics card, and dual Xeon 5.6's or something =/

Minimum is like Geforce 3 or maybe even Geforce 2, but it wont be that great with those video cards. SO you might as well get it for xbox if you cant afford uprading your comp.

I would get it for xbox, but I dont want to wait another few months for this game. Plus the fact that I spent $2000 on comp upgrades for this game and Half life 2.
