Hawk's semi-annual GOTM so far thread

3 replies 346 views Edited Jun 24, 2011

Intro) Every year around this time, I usually do a thread recaping the GOTM's so far. This is a way for us to recap each month of the year and recognize which games were good. This allows us to put in perspective what we have now and to see if any of the games that we list will also be GOTY nominees at the end of the year. It's important to note that these choices can be used in my GOTY so far thread, which I will post next week.

The rules: The game you pick has to be a game that was released this year. For example, Call of duty black op's or Gran turismo 5 wouldn't count as picks even if you waited this year to buy them. Because they were both released last year.Your pick also has to be a PS3 or PSN game. However, multiplatform games with PS3 versions are allowed. Each catagory has a runner up pick. Also, there can be 2-way ties if your having a tough time deciding which 2 games are better in a given catagory.

The following is the  tandard GOTM form with explainations of each catagory:

January to June (copy and fill one out for each month)

PS3 GOTM: Self explanitory. The best game of a particular month

Runner-up:

Handheld GOTM: Can be any PSP game or any Mini's that you bought during a given month

Runner-up:

Multiplatform GOTM: A PS3 game that's a multiplatform release. Or the 3rd best GOTM that happens to be multiplatform.

Runner-up:

Sequel of the month: Any good multiplatform or PS3 game that also is a sequel

Runner-up:

Hardware of the month: If applicable, any new PS hardware or accessory that you bought. It could be new or old, it doesn't matter.

Port or remake of the month: Any HD remake or port from a previous console counts. It can be a HD collection or remake on PSN. But it can not be a PS1 classic.

Runner-up:

PSN GOTM: Any PSN arcade game you bought in a given month

Runner-up:

Retro GOTM: Any unchanged retro game that was released onto PSN. PS classics, Neo geo games, and unchaged classic such as Sonic the hedgehog all count.

DLC of the month: Any expansion packs or map packs that you bought in a given month

Runner-up:

Biggest suprise or disappointment: Any game that you bought in a given month that you were either suprised by or dissappointed by.

Also in a given month (Jan-June): List any other games that you bought in a given month (either at retail or on PSN) that you think are worth noting.

Now, copy this form per month and make your picks: Think hard about each pick and take your time.

Re: Hawk's semi-annual GOTM so far thread

Jun 28, 2011

January:

If memory serves, I didn't pick up any new games during the month of January... at least not in terms of them being released during the month of January. That month I remember buying Peggle and Costume Quest, as well as playing through plenty of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

February:

In February I had picked up Killzone 3. Good, not great. Also during this month I had at last played 3D Dot Game Heroes, a welcome surprise (which of course is a 2010 title). I have bought and have been playing through Plants vs. Zombies recently, which released during February 2011 on the PlayStation Network. This is one fabulous game.

March:

March was a bit of a dead month for me personally, as far as wanted new releases goes. PixelJunk Shooter 2 and Vagrant Story were two games I bought off the store during March, and before I forget, I had also picked up Harvest Moon: Back to Nature the month prior (though, I found myself not able to get into the game). PixelJunk Shooter 2 is awesome, of course, while I have yet to actually have the chance to revisit Vagrant Story.

.

April:

Portal 2 is the only new game from April that I've played, but not during the month itself. This being during the PSN's downtime, I mostly spent this time on Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition... and a bit on some downloads I had on my system (such as Spyro: Year of the Dragon and PixelJunk Shooter 2).

May:

I haven't really much to say for May. There wasn't any PlayStation purchases made this month that I can think of (other than games already mentioned, like Plants vs. Zombies).

June:

In June I've been playing the free Infamous download, in addition to Plants vs. Zombies. No new purchases yet... but, I don't plan on making any until August at the earliest.

Just try to put a pick into each catagory of games that you have bought and played this year. Don't use the catagory if the game you bought doesn't apply. It maybe a short list of this years games that you've bought, but you can still pick them. You don't have to use each catagory from the form. And you can even create new catagories if you want. Like Stratagy GOTM or best sound or whatever.
