ME2 most versatile class?

As title,  I'd like to know.   This is my first playthrough & I picked Soldier as the default since I'm basically going with the wind.  But I'd like to know for a future play,  After seeing what Kasumi can do I'm leaning toward the Infiltrator class, but I want a class that can do a "bit of everything".

Re: ME2 most versatile class?

The two classes being closest to a jack of all trades are Soldier and Sentinel. Most classes have flexibility for different situations... I used an Infiltrator on my first playthrough, and with disruptor ammo and incinerate, and sniper rifle's general strengths, an Infiltrator can hurt just about anything. One thing I noticed though... some of the bosses target you even when you are cloaked (kind of like you can target Geth Hunters when they are cloaked) so you don't have as much defense as a Sentinel.

A Sentinel uses powers instead of ammo against the various defenses, and has a shield. A Soldier, because they can use every type of weapon, will probably never run out of ammo in the game, so combined with their ammo training (incindiary, disruptor, and cryo) they can take down any defense too, but instead of a defensive measure like Sentinel's armor, they have an offensive boosting ability in adrenaline rush.

The Infiltrator and Vanguard both have a mix of ammo and power abilities. But neither are as offensive or as defensive as the Soldier and Sentinel respectively.

The only classes that need help from squadmates against certian types of enemies are Engineer and Adept, but those two are very effective against one type of enemy and have unique class abilities.

Re: ME2 most versatile class?

Soldier is certainly my class of choice.  I love having all of the weapons and ammo at my disposal.  They are easy to cycle through and they're incredibly useful in situations against bosses & other strong enemies.  Although, I've still yet to use any other class.  Whenever I'm at the class selection screen I look at the others and I pick Soldier.  If any of the others had the assault rifle it would be a harder choice.

Re: ME2 most versatile class?

I played through as Soldier and Sentinel, and I have to say Soldier had all the bases covered with your ammo choices.  Warp ammo (bonus) for barriers/biotics.  Disrupter ammo for bots.  Incinerate for organics.  It's just a well-built, well equipped class.  And the choice of weapons is like candy to me... pistols, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper.  You're covered.  If you're not into the biotic powers, Soldier is great!  But I'd recommend bringing a biotic or two with you just in case.
