So I'm returning to MGS4

Yeah, this ought to be fun Smiley Very Happy

Doing the 2.00 update right now and then I'm going to do the full install (9GB right?).  Fresh start, nothing unlocked, and it's been years since I've played but never far from slamming the game any chance I get.  Update only does:

- Full Install Option

- Removal of MGO Option

- Trophies

Right?  Nothing else in the gameplay department...or the story?  I'm going to have to look up how to unlock certain things again.  No, not going for a Platinum cause I'm told 8 playthroughs is the minimum and I'm just not doing that, especially a Big Boss run being mixed in there (and getting all weapons/songs).  I'll do a No Kill/No Alert & a "If it moves, kill it" playthrough but that's probably as much as I'm going to do.  Not sure if I'll be equipped to even deal with the B&B Corp non-lethally the first time through effectively but we'll see.

Might be using this thread to catalog the journey and the disappointment becoming fresh in my mind again.

Anyone can deal with the B&B Corp non-lethally on the first playthrough. When the update came out I got stealth camo, the bandana, the Solar Gun, pretty sure I got all the weapons, etc on my first playthrough.

**bleep**'s easy. I HAVE FAITH IN YOU.

I'll have to get a feel for the game again to be sure of myself I can do as much as possible in the first playthrough. I think I'll just go 'casual' this first playthrough though and do whatever.

What the hell are the 8 playthroughs needed for though?

EDIT: I might be oblivious but did the channels at the beginning always have the 'Info' box telling you what the channel was about?

all of the playthroughs are pretty much for emblems, since emblems need many different requirements. and you have to get certain emblems to obtain certain items, and you need those items for trophies. its a real pain and time consuming, but its not too hard. the MGS2 plat was harder in my opinion(**bleep** Solidus fight on Extreme).

Just met up with Drebin. So far, haven't killed anyone. Spent maybe 5-10 minutes though at the part with the APC and the rebels, looking for another RPG round to take out the 2nd APC. I checked all the dead bodies, ran around the area picking up what ammo I could and even gave away a few rations hoping one of the rebels would give be an RPG round but no dice Smiley Indifferent

Meh, emblem playthroughs to get certain items -_- Yeah, I'll do what I feel comfortable with but nothing more. Didn't do it before, not doing it now.

I was tempted to start gunning them down cause they weren't giving me a round but the APC at the end of the street was doing a good enough job with that.

I'm undecided if I should make this my No Alert/No Kill run. So far, I've done neither and can get it out of the way right off the bat but I'm tempted to use the M4 I just got...decisions, decisions.

It doesn't help that the game automatically puts lethal **bleep** in your inventory after certain parts of the game.

I remember this.  Should have fixed it in the patch.  Would have all non-lethal equips and after certain cutscenes, you'd have an AR equipped and have to always go in and switch it out -_-  The game is pretty much telling you to start sending people to the afterlife.

The trophys are just troll... There's no explicit Big Boss Emblem trophy, or a Stealth/Bandana unlock trophy... But you get the "get all songs" trophy, that indirectly makes you get ALL FRIGGIN EMBLEMS for just one song (Snake Eater). And with those emblems, well... all the Big Ten, including BBE.

And The 8 playthrough is like the average... There is obviously some asian that can get all platinum in 6 playthroughs (yay asians xD). But look at it this way...

If you go for all emblems, at best you can get all Doberman/Hound/Fox/Foxhound/Big Boss in one playthrough if you just start playing at Extreme. Check.

Now you need another playthrough for Chicken, and if you time it right, you can get all the nuisance Rabbit, Turtle, etc (spending helluva time in the Box, another time crawling, another one crouching, look at Playboys... etc), and you can also get the "all flashbacks" trophy. Check, we have 2 playthroughs.

Now, we have the Feline Emblems that involves the 75 Alerts, 250 Kiils and 25 Continues. I don't remember exactly how much felines were, I bet they were 6. And for each feline, you needed to have Alerts, Kills anc Continues above/under the numbers I gave earlier.

For example, there's a feline emblem when you have Alerts < 75, Kills < 250, Continues < 25. You have another one for Alerts > 75, Kills < 250 and Continues > 25. And you get another one for another combination of the >,< signs, and there's a feline for each combination. So if they were indeed 6, you'll add at least 4 more playthroughs. (considering that you might have earned the "all under" feline when doing the BBE and the "all above" feline when doing Chicken)

And that's where you have the asian 6 playthough. And I think I'm not considering yet the Assassin emblem, and I wonder if you can staple it to a feline playthrough. If not, you get a 7th playthrough.

Now... add if you slipped something... say... a Flashback... a weapon... Whatever. More playthroughs to you.

...

Yep, that's the pain in the arse... All for getting Snake Eater...

PS: I miss just one trophy for the Platinum... The Flashback trophy. I don't eben now which one I'm missing. I thought they were the "How Jack met Rose" flashbacks after Outer Haven crashes Raiden... But after doing them, still nothing. I'll try getting it when I get to MGS4 in the MGS-story marathon I'm replaying at the moment. I have to play MGS3 now.
