There were some good 2009 releases, but not enough to make up for the crap that was released.
Ha yea 92 over again here in LA...hopefully not.

Anyone else like Kool Keith? I know he gets pretty abtract sometimes but I think he's one of the extremely few rappers who never sold out. He's also mad creative, even if he does not always rhyme or make sense.
His prime cuts to check out are songs from:
A Much Better Tomorrow
Dr. Octagonecologyst
The Original SoundTrack Album Of Project Polaroid
Critical Beatdown
The Cenobites LP

I actually did like The Lost Masters album that came out in '03 from Kool Keith. It's got a bunch of complete nonsense tracks on it (which were expected) but I think I did like half of the tracks. I don't think Kool Keith ever put out a greatest hits compilation CD, did he? Well, if he did there would be more "hit" tracks from the groups & projects he has been in than his own solo stuff.

Definitely, his abtract tendencies really don't hold up well on his own.

Damn, so I'm thinking Common at the very least can give a very energetic performance in contrast to his later albums. Anyone seen him live and can vouch if he's anything like this in the video? I find it amazing just how Common can give so much energy to his live, but not to his albums where "Testify" is dull and bland on the album.
To see him just give off a raw emotion got me thinking that he might still have something in him...at least live anyway. Any other artists like this live? Yeah, a complete virgin here; never went to a concert in my life.

I saw Common perform in NYC 'round the middle of '06 at a Roots show. Get this, the featured guests at the show were Common, Nas, and Talib Kweli that night, all backed by the mighty Roots crew. Of those three big-name guests, Common was the most energetic. He seemed so comfortable in front of a large crowd. I remember he was very loose and made his set seem spontaneous and personalized for the audience that night. He was not overly concerned as to whether the crowd wanted to hear more of the tracks from fan-fave Resurrection or Be. He just focused on giving the crowd an upbeat performance. "Love of My Life" was a real highlight from that show. If you are going to see a concert, yeah sure I would recommend Common.
Hey Fifth, never went to concert huh? Well I just got 2 tix for DOOM featuring Mos Def at the end of next month. If my bud I'm s'posed to be going with bails on me, you're more than welcome to that ticket.

Damn, son. <3<3<3<3<3
I'm extremely cautious about Doom though for obvious reasons.

Sounds like a hell of a concert you're one lucky man. I've always wanted to see Nas but he don't come around here a lot.
Saw the Roots this summer though, that was a good show
