Alot of people say mainstream rap's lyrics are dumb and have no meaning.Some underground artists rap about profound subjects while others just make social commentaries( like Del for instance). IMO Mainstream lyrics aren't "retarded" ,"stupid" or "dumb" it's just they talk about stuff like drive-bys,  or hustling for a living which the youth of today don't need to be listening to.

If you lived during the 80's and early 90's then yeah, but right now.....uh it seems to be that way. Only examples that I can think of right now that would be having heavy plays would be T.I. and 50 cent, but they're meh at best. I mean "Crank that", "Party like a rockstar", "White Girl", "Ay Bay Bay", and others have nothing remotely redeeming about it.

Oh, Wu-Tang's 8 Diagrams disappointed me very much. Felt like they came with little energy to no energy when they spitted. Production was good though and Ghostface's Big Doe Rehab was pretty good.
