to save his life.
David Vigil, otherwise known as "That Vigilante" is suffering from Stage 2 Pancreatic cancer. Last year, David was also fighting for his life because of cancer, but with the help of some very generous people and the massive spread of word on twitter and such, enough money was raised to save him. Unfortunately, during a simple check-up, they found out that the cancer has spread and David is now in an even worse state than before. If David wants to get treated, he needs $48,000 before November 18th, which is a hell of a goal.
Well done to all involved in helping to make the total what it is so far: $30,983 at the time of writing this.
However, $16,000 is still needed by 21st November and without more coverage in the games press I fear that the $47,000 target won't be achieved.
Can somebody contact Bill Gates and ask him for a little loose change out of his back pocket?
But seriously ......... I've been emailing and tweeting various games related media outlets but no responses at all - perhaps they just see my message and think 'spam' even though I've provided links to the articles on Kotaku, Joystiq and the NeoGAF thread about David:
Speaking of the above thread, a huge thanks to 'kubus' who has been a huge driving force behind it - I wish I was a member of NeoGAF to thank him (her?) but sadly I'm not.
Does anyone have ANY idea on how we can drive this forward for the final $16,000 dollar push? Can the top people at Naughty Dog be contacted to ask for their help? Does anyone here know them and if so can they contact them please? Perhaps Naughty Dog could organise a collection and/or raise awareness in their own offices?
Twitter accounts for some of the top people on Naughty Dog are as follows, it would be worth tweeting them all to see if they can offer their generous help in any way, shape or form:
Evan Wells: https://twitter.com/evan_wells
Neil Druckmann: https://twitter.com/Neil_Druckmann
Amy Hennig: https://twitter.com/amy_hennig
Christophe Balestra: https://twitter.com/cbalestra
Justin Richmond: https://twitter.com/wildspeculation
Bruce Straley: https://twitter.com/bruce_straley
Perhaps people reading this thread could you also publicise David's plight on various forums and also contact the main online games sites to see if they can publish a news article about David?
Here's the top games news sites:
Finally, a message from David that was posted on his Gofundme site yesterday:
"I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for every type of support I've received. I could have never done this without your friendship, love and support and just knowing you have my back is helping me fight harder than ever.
The pain I'm going through has increased but I'm hanging in there. I'm resting as much as I can in-between what I need to take care of. I've been able to see my family with the break I've had from work and I'm cherishing every second.
I'm going to keep this short, but before I go I just want to say that my work was not only inspired by the games we all love but also by the idea of following your dreams and being able to do what you love for a living. To wake up everyday and feel a sense of excitement and being able to share what you create with everyone. It's a truly remarkable feeling.
I want to keep that dream alive.
Thank you again so very much!
With only 24 hours to go we really need a final big push to get David the final $16,000 that he needs - besides Tweeting the Naughty Dog people in my message above, please also email/tweet any and all people that you think can help and also online games news sites.
Two sites that really could help if only they published a story are Greg Miller at IGN, Twitter: https://twitter.com/GameOverGreggy
and Patrick Klepek at GiantBomb, Twitter: https://twitter.com/patrickklepek
Thanks to those who have donated, the fund has reached $38,000 - this means that David can at last have his operation!
HOWEVER, we are still $9,000 short of the aimed for total of $47,000 - this additional $9,000 is needed for 'after care' - as stated on a recent update on the site:
"The remaining amount we need to reach our goal is very important. It will cover all of David's after care needs such as follow-up appointments, medication, his nutritional needs as well as any treatments he still might need in the future."
So please, keep spreading the word - via Twitter, Facebook, email, etc - also gently nudge games news websites as the more coverage this gets then the better the chances are that David can get that much needed remaining $9,000
Excellent work so far, and all from a mere 580 people!

Thank you so much!
