What about the owners that didn't keep the dog properly restrianed? You can put this dog down, but those owners can go out and get another dog that will do the same thing.

True, but hopefully they would learn from the first mistake. "Don't do anything because it will just happen again." is hardly a solution.

I saw this in a meme yesterday. The dog owner should now understand that (s)he should not have a pet after leaving it wandering around the streets. It's a common problem when I have to walk my dog. 25% of the time, I have dogs trying to attack my pet and thank god that most of them are much smaller than him.

Why post here if you have no concern for this thread?

I wasn't saying nothing should be done, I was saying the owners should be held responsible. The dog is not the root of this problem, and putting it down would be at best a band-aid.

True, I own two pitbulls myself. I trained them well enough, but I did have an instance where the actual collar itself snapped and they got free. They are not mean dogs at all, never hurt anyone, but when someone sees a big pitbull wondering without someone they panic -- understandable. But you never know how the dog actually got loose. Of course that dog was pretty brutal and not trained well.

No, I completely agree with you, don't get me wrong. I too think the owners should be help 100% responsible for this. I still think the dog should be put down though to prevent it attacking another child, or anyone for that matter.
