Great idea, Box.

I always wanted to hear a coherent debate between two rival open world video games like Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto, and what is comparable and different between the two series, and the pros and cons with each game.

Thanks youngin.

Came up with a few questions...

Which game is more crime based? More violent? Which game is more realistic?

*This is in preparation for next week's topic -- just brain storming...*

Post failed the first time I clicked post but good thing I copied this entire post before posting.

.

Grand Theft Auto would have to be more crime based with the direction of Saints Row 4. Violence goes to Saints Row because how easy it is too go on rampages and violence is pretty much in every mission and cops shut you down quick in GTA if you're not on the run from them. People might say GTA is more violent because of the torture part but violence is like a daily routine in Saints Row.

Haven't played the 1st Saints Row but it's been goofy and over the top since the 2nd game.

GTA

Pros:

Nice take on real cities.

The story

Driving takes some getting used to but if you do master it you will be untouchable in races (I certainly am).

Cities are somewhat "alive".

All the content in the cities.

The music in past games.

Online adds years or replay value with your friends.

What I think are undercover cops, I robbed a liquor store and some lady got to shooting at me.

Cons:

The movements are super stiff.

Cops are like super soldiers in V.

Annoying gang members are always hostile.

No animals online

Shoot first then shoot again players in public session.

Cop Sirens 3/5 times go off constantly in the background in GTA online.

Saints Row

Pros:

Co-op Singlelayer

Over the top missions, guns, melee animations and vehicles

All games pretty much have you taking over the city.

Customization

Mixtapes

Friendly AI gang members can be used as backup.

References to movies and TV.

Games are easy to 100%.

Johnny Gat.

Respect bonuses

Planet Saints store music.

Cons:

Cheesy moments

Game freezes often so using cheats which disables auto-saves kinda suck.

Devs lack of patches for glitches & bugs.

Story isn't really lengthy.

Shaundi and Pierce.

Vehicle handling is meant to be noob friendly.

A shotgun can hit you from 2 blocks away.

Which game is more realistic?

Earlier WWE Games....

Where the small guys like Rey can't body slam the Big Show or Andre the Giant lol

(When they had Andre in the earlier games, and actually is back in WWE 2K14)

For those that don't know Wrestling or it's games

Rey is like 5 ft 175 lbs....

The Big Show is 7ft 440 lbs....

I figured I'd bump this thread because I see plenty of potential.

Since the newest topic hasn't been decided yet, I'll give a suggestion:

I was recently watching the newest trailer for Ultra Street Fighter IV, and the final revealed character was someone from the comic series (I think) named Decapre, whose moveset is a mixture of Cammy's and Bison's, two other characters that are already featured.

The trailer inspired me to ask this question: Do you support "clone" characters, are you against them, or are you indifferent?

Cloned characters are fine as it's MK's thing. As for SF doing it? They should try to do their own thing and not copy some 1 elses ideas....

Street Fighter did it first with Ryu and Ken, but Mortal Kombat was more notorious for doing so because there were even more clones and palette swaps, at least back in the early nineties.

Ultra Street Fighter IV now has:

Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Dan, Sakura, Gouken, Evil Ryu, and Oni

Yun and Yang

Cammy and Decapre

Each one of these characters shares the same fighting style with the others who I grouped him/her with, but they do have their own unique twists in one form or another.

Clones aren't bad if they have actual distinctions. Like different moves and such. Fox and Falco are only distinguished by appearance, they play exactly the same.

MK has gone to great lengths to diversify Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Rain, Sektor, Cyrax, and Smoke. They're not clones anymore.
