Elitist Users Reporting New Users

53 replies 590 views Edited Apr 21, 2013
I'm sorry but I just read a thread and a "certain" user claims he reported the OP just because he was apparently "blacklisting"..... My thoughts on the matter?

Well, first off, he doesn't have very many post. So he's obviously new to the forums and all of the rules. However, I'm sure now he knows better because he edited the thread and removed the names. I really think this is bad and shameful behavior from someone who post frequently on the forums. Meaning, you should be a good sport and helpful to others. Not report them on the first go round. Usually Those in the Navy are more honorable than this... well, that's all.

And It would be funny if that "certain" user came to this thread and said I'm "blacklisting" too! lol

Regarding if somone is new or not blacklisting is not allowed and if a person violates the TOS it should be reported if not the forums would be full of arguing and spam and we don't want that.

While I don't agree with blacklisting on the forums and I do believe that it shouldn't have been posted, I do see your point. It's about educating new users on what is acceptable and what is not. I saw this post you're referring to and I don't think the report was out of badness as such, even if it could have been handled better.

Not everyone who uses these forums reads the rules and sometimes it's just about giving a little guidance.

I'm getting so horked up.

This tactic is quite common. I do know what situation you're referring to, it's happened several times on here before.

As many times as these so called "elitist" have been told to tame it down, nothing constructive really surfaces.

I don't agree with blacklisting personally. Since most of us or any of us who have been posting on here for some time, already know it's against forum rules. Just like posting screencaps on the forums, baiting, profanity, etc.

But I understand what you mean that the type of behavior you mentioned, is not appealing.

Especially to new forum users on here.

Being "reported" does not necessarily mean anything BAD will happen to a new user, particularly in a case like this.  The user may or may not be familiar with all of the forum rules.  Reporting the topic simply alerts moderation so that the issue can be fixed quicker, which isn't so bad.

Some veteran users have seen the same type of thing over and over.  I'm not sure what thread specifically you are referring to, it could simply be a case that a user came across in type a little more 'mean sounding' than they intended, when they really meant no harm... or the OP could have been an alternative account for another veteran who knows better, or any number of possibilities.

In any case, reporting the thread is actually the right call, so the problem can be addressed properly. :smileyhappy:
