Highly unusual lightning phenomenon in the USA - 2013

12 replies 251 views Edited Jul 27, 2013

You probably haven't realized it - but the lightning has several unusual characteristics these days in the United States:

1.  Orange lightning.  That's weird.  Never saw that before.

2.  Unusually powerful lightning.  It rattled my house for 10 seconds

3.  LIghtning in the middle of the day, with the Sun out - concentrated in a region nearby.

That's strange.  Something's changed - local warming undoubtedly.  Excess gasoline combustion.  The United States reached peak oil production in the 1970s - its production has gone steadily downhill since then.  That's a lot of gasoline that was combusted.  And it consumes 25% of the world's oil production, despite having only 4.4% of its population.  Also, more seriously, the world has reached peak oil production.  Despite massive efforts at increasing it, oil production has remained constant since 2007.  And the world's population continues to increase at a steady rate.

Where are you if you don't mind me asking? Orange lightning sounds cool from where I am, but it'd probably scare the hell out of me if I saw it in person.

Wow. That is unusual.

The most unusual lightning I ever saw was ball lightning. Stuff freaked me out, but it was really cool, with the exception of the tree catching on fire.

It was about the size of a basketball and it was whitish bluish in color.

Happened to my parents in Florida. It was a sunny day with no clouds in the sky. They and thier friends were talking when a lighting bolt hit right above thier heads and did a loud boom and crack. They were all inside in seconds.

California here (SF Bay Area).

We've had some odd lightening storms too.

First one was a couple months. There was an odd lightening storm around midnight.

I laid in bed and watched it out the window. It was pretty cool / eerie having one in the summer.

Since then, I've seen some odd lightening flashes in the sky, late at night.

Lasts for maybe 10-15 minutes, then I usually fall asleep before I know if it truly ended.

I'm just used to seeing that stuff in the winter.

I had a very, VERY loud boom the other day out of nowhere. It was a loud thunderclap. Sounded like a large AA Plane crashed.
