Have you been watching the History Channel?
Thanks Saviorsixtysix for the sig
The Sherman tank would need incredible luck to win. Maybe a lucky shot to shoot off the tread. Something like that. Otherwise the Sherman could shoot at the M1 for an hour uninterrupted, and do negligible damage. This is not really a fight.
If there were 1000 Sherman tanks and 10 M1's, my money would be on the 10 A1 tanks to win. They really are that good. Same as 10 F-15's versus 1000 Corsair fighters from WWII. The F-15's win. Or put 1000 of the USS Constitution (wooden ship in Boston harbor) up against 10 Iowa class battleships. It's really not a fight at all.
You don't want to enter a war with the second-best Air Force, the second-best Army, or the second-best Navy.
What do you mean by take out? Do you mean destroy or disable? And would the Abrams and Shermans be in mutual combat or the Abrams not be allowed to fight?
I think 1 Sherman with a well placed shell could disable an Abrams, if lucky. But I doubt it would be able to penetrate the Abrams armor. 76mm rounds could probably do a bit of damage but it would take a while to wear down the armor if they don't bounce off like they did with the German Panthers and Tigers. If anything the Abrams could destroy 42 Shermans before they could even see it.
My stepdad is an instructor for the A2 Abrams....
They're beasts.... I hear them nearly every day shooting off to represent the start of the day and end of the day on the Army base.
And we're talking 10+ miles away. And its just ONE M1A2 shootting off the 6 rounds signifying 0600 for Reville, and 5 rounds at 1700 for Taps.
I have yet to see any other tank that can go toe to toe with an Abrams and have both crews be afraid of the fight. Usually, the Abrams crew is having a smoke break while battling lol
