July 17, 2014: Sun completely void of sunspots

Right now it sure as heck looks like we are back to solar minimum right now for the time being.

Spaceweather.com is reporting only 2 numbered sunspots on the earth facing side of the sun, but are saying that the sunspots are so small that they aren't noticeable. But the most notable thing is that the sun looks blank, almost like we are back to the years 2008-2009. Solar cycle 24 is at solar maximum currently, and sunspot activity is expected to pick up to normal levels for solar cycle 24 alone sometime soon.

Solar minimum? How sad. There's less sun to hide from as I crawl into my room and turn on the PS4.

Yeah, it's not very impressive.  In the historical record, there are only a few Solar Maxima weaker than this one. But, it has produced one of the strongest storms on record back in July of 2012, which many people said would have been on the same level as the Carrington event in 1859.

Another update:

There is now only 1 numbered sunspot (AR2113) on the earth facing side.

I'll say this plain and clear, if the chimp thing is real, it is a complete waste of taxpayer money.

What matters more is where the article goes in its opinion.

Should I even bother to explain what The Onion is? Or is it funnier that he's taking this seriously?
