A new World Trade Center building under construction in New York has reached the height of 1,776 feet, or 541 meters making it the tallest building not just in NYC but in the Western Hemisphere. It is symbolic of the year 1776, when the United States declared its independence.

A spire was installed on Friday atop the 104-story One World Trade Center, a structure being built at the site of the September 11th terror attacks in 2001. The 124-meter spire serves as a broadcast antenna.

A crane was used to lift the spire to the roof of the building. Loud applause and cheers erupted from construction workers when it was fully installed.

One World Trade Center is scheduled to open for business next year.

Well they say it's suppose top be stronger then the previous WTC, and won't fall down easily and has better safety features.

nobody ever said it will stop a plane from crashing in to it but just cause they did one time does that mean we should stop building skyscrapers?

Newer buildings are being built to withstand a lot of today's dangers. The previous WTC was designed the same way, but for the dangers of that time. As time goes by the dangers change and so do the precautions taken. At the moment security goes far beyond the building and extends into the cockpit and airport.

Anyways, the building actually looks nice. It's good to see something come out of the rubble and show the world that we don't quit.
