Why own a pet?

21 replies 201 views Edited Jun 23, 2014
Three people I know all of a sudden have pets. Its so odd.. I don't see the appeal. Pets stink up the house, shed their fur, you become a pooper scooper, you have to bathe them and train them. Overall just seems like a hassle.

People love animals to the way they look and act, to the way they do their own things. People will do anything depending on the person to give the animal the best life they have ever had to the point of rescuing them from their abusive former owners and euthenasia from the dog pounds, etc.

Sounds like dog problems, not pet problems overall.

@Setzaroth yea most people I know have dogs but Reptiles, birds, rabbits and hamsters are just as stinky, you have to clean cages more frequently and they shed and what not. Those type of pets are a smaller hassle.

Depends on the type of pet really.. I have several frogs because i enjoy studying their abundance of mutations and genetics defects, reproduction habits, and behavioral patterns and relating them to everyday human interactions, and a dog just because i love her.

No one is saying you have to get one just because all your friends have. If you do not want a pet please do not get one just to fit in. If you do decide to get one, i would suggest something exotic that does not have any of the faults you mentioned and are extremely easy to maintain, Like a spider or scorpion.
