Re: Xbox One Discussion

May 22, 2013

There's all kinds of reasons they chose the name XBox One. It represents:

  • The number of people who will buy it
  • The number of things it can do (watch TV)
  • The number of accounts that can play a certain game disc
  • The number of exclusive franchises that haven't bailed on XBox and went to PlayStation instead
  • The number of days most people will play it after purchasing it
  • The value of a Microsoft Stock in dollars once they release this console
  • The number of games and save data you can fit on its non-removable hard drive
  • The number of years until Microsoft abandons XBox completely

Xbox one? More like the Microsoft Cablebox. :smileytongue: I mean jeez I wouldn't pay more than $300 for this.  Psh at least the Wii U showed games at their revealing and not some gimmicky tv crap.  Might just stick with Wii U and ps4 like i did with the wii and ps3 this gen.

I still can't believe what just happened with Microsoft's ridiculous press conference. :smileyvery-happy:

It can't be a publicity stunt, can it? Nah...

After watching the unveiling of Xbox One and discovering all these announcements they had not made in the conference, it makes the whole show even more pointless. I did not expect for users to pay a fee for playing a pre-owned game. Also the fact that there's no backwards compatability. After watching Angry Joe's rant, it all makes sense: why would you buy an Xbox One if it's the same concept as PC? When I heard about TIMED exclusives for Xbox One, it doesn't really matter since all colsoles will get the DLC eventually.

Re: Xbox One Discussion

I think the outcome of PS4 vs XB1 is going to be determined almost entirely by SONY.

Microsoft is charging money for every account you want to install the game on. If I'm interpreting this right, we're going to see scenarios like this:

Guy 1: "Hello family and siblings and roommates! I just payed $60 for this new game! I'm going to install it now."

Guy 2: "That looks fun! I want to play that game too."

Guy 3: "Me too!"

Guy 1: "Sorry guys. if you want to play this game on your account, too, you'll have to pay a separate fee for each and every additional account."

SONY, on the other hand, did not announce specifically whether or not they will do this. Their patent may spell bad news, however.

If SONY does charge for used games, everyone will be utterly disappointed, but the playing field will be level between PS4 and XB1. I think there is a very good reason that Microsoft made that announcement now, rather waiting until closer to release. They are probably encouraging SONY to do the same.

On the other hand, if SONY decides not to do that, PS4 will absolutely annihilate XB1. I really hope SONY doesn't charge us for used games, or even if I want to play at a friend's house. If games need to increase to $70? Sure, go ahead. Most of us understand inflation. But don't charge us because we can only use 1 disc on 1 console. That's just stupid.
