Help with playing mp4 video's on PS3

5 replies 65090 views Edited Mar 13, 2007
I'm trying to play some mp4 movies on my ps3. I had some quicktime movies that I converted to mpeg4 using quicktime. I've put them on a usb flash drive and attached it to my PS3. The PS3 says "There are no titles" when I try to view the usb drive. I've tried .mov, .avi, and .mpg files with the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try creating a folder on your USB Drive called VIDEO. Place this in the root of the USB Drive, and then try. You can also press "Triangle" in the USB Drive on the XMB and you see an option to "Display All." This should display all the folders on your USB Drive.

If your mp4 files don't have the codec AVC or SP then they won't be compatible.  Avi and mov files are not going to be accepted.  Mpg may be if it's mpeg-1.

You can always convert them over to a file that is approved.  Programs like Super and PS3 Video 9 can do it.

I can confirm that you must create a VIDEO directory on the root of the SD card for the PS3 to recognize the files.  Create the "VIDEO"  directory and move the MP4 files in the directory.

I have used QuickTime 7.3 for Windows to create a HD video file and it works great.

I did exactly what Moose said and it works!! I had the same problem as Bax with the USB coming up with "no titles" but as soon as a pressed the triangle button and selected "display all" I was able to get into my "video" file and copy the movie that I wanted on to my PS3. It plays with good video and audio

Thanks again Moose!
