PSP not reading disks as well as clicking noise.

8 replies 2202 views Edited Sep 14, 2010

Exactly as the title says. My PSP is way past it's warranty and I don't have the money to send it in to get it fixed much less buy a new one. Is there any way to fix this problem without opening up my PSP?

Or will Sony just take it back and give me a new one? (<---LOL)

Oh yeah, my PSP is a 3001 model and was working fine until just a little while ago. It hasn't been dropped or anything. So I don't know what caused this to happen. I've tried it with all of my UMDs and none of them work, they don't have many scratches on them and they've worked fine before.

UMD Drive failure most likely. You'd have to get it fixed by sending it in or something (which you can't afford) or doing it yourself (which you don't wanna do).

So, yeah

ok. i have had this same problem. two months ago.or 1 month ago

it took like 5 hrs to make it start working again. i also have a 3000. the umd drive stopped working.

there are noises and the disc cant be read. i know

make sure the disc laser thinky with the cord is on the left. or the game wont be read.

watch this

( pics)

the laser thingy

watch the 1st video and test the umd drive

there should be a red light

than  if that doesnt work

clean it using a q-tip and alchol (nail polish was what i used)

use a cloth and clean it

blow at it to make sure there is no dust

EDIT

it can take a while.. it just happens randomly

it stopped working when i was play r&c size matters online

if that doesnt help then idk

my psp just started working after doing all the stuff.but i had warranty

i shook  the psp and other stuff

Screw it. It seems like whatever happened it screwed it up good. The motor doesn't respond, the laser light doesn't turn on, and yet when I put in a UMD it seems like it's reading it. But it never spins.

Anyways, I'll just sell it on Ebay. Get Dead Rising 2 and forget about the PSP.

There are two sensors on the PSP 2000/3000 UMD assembly that confirm a UMD is present and the UMD door is properly secured.

Your choice though.

Very sorry for the double post but I've concluded that the UMD door isn't shutting all the way. I applied some pressure to it after putting in a UMD and it read it just fine. Is there some way to fix this problem?

Okay, pretty sure I've fixed it now. The bar that was in the UMD thing was bent up, probably causing the problems. Anyways, it's reading my games now and there are no clicking noises.

Thanks for the help.
