Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

There are ways to downgrade a hacked PSP to the official 1.5 firmware or something, then updating to the latest firmware from that will avoid all problems.

I, however do not know how to do this... I haven't hacked a PSP in a while.

Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

Can't even mention that stuff! The mods are ALWAYS stalking us . . . x]

But, if your device functions correctly, I'm sure there's a solution. You get what you pay for though, in this case you did get a PSP and not a chinese knock-off (or something). Fairly good, considering the bad rep cl gets.

Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

Calm down! What Firmware does it come with? What model is it? I could tell you how to get out of that and get into 6.31 Original.

Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

I never heard of sony purposely bricking PSP's while people upgrade from custom firmware, if anything Sony wants you to upgrade, so i would just say go ahead and upgrade, if you already have the game and it came with an upgrade you should be able to run the upgrade to official firmware with no problem, just make sure ur psp is fully charged and the charger is plugged in while ur doing it

Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

Ok, so listen carefully and follow carefully.

I do not guarantee anything, this is what I did to revert my brother's PSP Slim to Original.

WARNING: You will be entering the setting-sensitive Service Menu and the even more sensitive flash0. Disable your PC's antivirus and antispyware first before proceeding.

If you ever get stuck or if something is too confusing, STOP. Post back on why you can't continue.

1. Power down your PSP, remove battery, remove memory stick, remove charger. Wait 5 seconds.

2. Put back battery, put back memory stick, put back charger.

3. Hold down RIGHT trigger. Do not let go of it.

4. Power on PSP. Keep holding down trigger.

5. When you get to the Recovery Menu, release trigger.

6. Scroll down to ADVANCED and select it.

7. Then select ADVANCED CONFIGURATION.

8. Disable Plain Modules, Disable Execute BOOT.BIN, Disable XMB plugins, Disable GAME plugins, Disable POPS plugins.

9. Go back. You will be taken back to the previous menu.

10. Now, select Toggle USB (flash0).

11.  It should say "USB Enabled."

12. Get your computer, and a USB cable. Plug your PSP (while it's still on) to your PC.

13. Go to My Computer, and you'll see that your PSP is recognized as a small flash drive. For me it was 23.9MB.

From this point on, there's no turning back.

14. Right, open the flash drive, you should see some folders: It's labeled "data" "dic" "font" "kd" and "vsh".

15. Open up the "vsh" folder. There should be three folders: "etc" "module" and "resource"

16. Open the "etc" folder.

17. Now, you'll see three files. "cptbl.dat" "index_01g.dat" and "version.txt"

18. Open up version.txt in Notepad.

19. You'll see at the first line something that says "release:9.90" then after that a long line of text. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING AFTER "release:9.90"

20. Change "release:9.90" to "release:5.50"

21. Go to File > Save. Save your changes to version.txt. Double check if the changes are committed.

22. Close explorer, then Safely Remove Hardware your PSP. Then unplug your PSP.

23. Back to the PSP, select the "Toggle USB (flash0)" option again.

24. It should say "USB Disabled."

25. Go back, and you're going to be taken to the recovery main menu.

26. Scroll up to CONFIGURATION.

27. (Optional) If you have this option, scroll down to "Speed up MS access" and set it to "NEVER." If you don't have that, it's OK.

28. Look for an option that says "Use version.txt" and set it to "ENABLED."

29. Go back, then EXIT.

30. It should say "Exiting Recovery." and boot you back to the PSP XMB.

31. Format your memory stick, delete all data.

32. FOLLOW SONY'S INSTRUCTIONS TO UPDATE TO 6.31.

33. Enjoy your un-hacked PSP Slim.

34. Give a Kudos Point to this post. :smileytongue:

------------

Anyway, It's 1:05AM here now... Goodnight. I'll check this thread tomorrow.

DISCLAIMER: These instructions are provided in good faith, and while I have confidence in them (and they did work on my brother's system) I do not take any responsibility for anyone's hardware.

Double post, but whatever.

Yes, Jesse is right. Your PSP must be at least 90% charged and your charger plugged in at all times.

And yes, there are cases of PSPs with CFW bricking when going back to OFW, but don't panic! For about two years, the only cases I found this happen is on very old PSPs which have been hacked with the old downgraders of yore.

Back in the day when the first few CFWs came out, CFW makers tampered with the PSP's IDSTORAGE Keys in order for the hack to continue. Those keys make every single part of the PSP work. Buttons, WiFi, UMD drive, USB Port, etc, it's all there. The firmware just looks up those keys, and uses them to operate the hardware.

However, when changed too much, the Original Firmware from Sony doesn't recognize the tampered keys anymore. Which in turn causes the Original Firmware install to balk at about 70-90% complete. And a brick.

Most CFW installs today are quite safe: They don't touch the keys anymore. I won't worry about it.

But if you are truly paranoid, I would run ChillyWilly's KeyCleaner. I used that to fix keys that were mangled with before doing an OFW install.

Re: i got ripped off bad i think.....

Sigh...why don't you guys refer these CFW people to me...I fix these for extra money locally...

OP, you need to follow the list of instructions previously posted in this thread. Basically you're telling the PSP that the FW on it is lower. That way you can upgrade to 6.31 and be good to go.
