Re: Could the Update have killed my PS3?

I've got the exact same problem. (60g. played a game, system turned itself off. Now just YLOD and flashing red). VERY frustrating. I sent message using the website and received generic reply with some FAQ's to click on and the norm "It may need to be serviced".

Also, I found this on the playstaion forum:

Re: Could the Update have killed my PS3?

Last week I updated to 3.0 and I've had the exact same problem with my last two Blu Ray discs.  I haven't popped a game (COD4) in yet, but will tonight and hope beyond hope that it plays.  Regardless if it does, not being able to play BR's without the system freezing up after 30 minutes is a slight problem for me.  It could be a hardware failure, but the timing is definitely suspect and the fact that so many other people have freezing issues after downloading 3.0 points towards a shared fault.

Come on Sony, step up to the plate here.

No you can't kill something that was never alive. It is possible for an update to brick the system, but it most likley woudn't be a fault on Sony's part, and more likely to be a problem during the installiation.

mines not dead yet but updates for sure broke my system (all started back for me at 2.76 hahaha and now I refuse to download 3.0). Oh and somebody has to file a class action law suit. We the consumers aren't being heard by this company we need to take some sort of legal action against these a ssholes!

After updating to 3.00, mine froze up all the time. Since it was still within the return window of 30 days, I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another one. The default firmware on the slim is 2.76, and that one runs stable. Needless to say, I'm not updating to 3.00 on the new one. I'll wait until all of the bugs are worked out first. Anyone in the same situation may want to consider doing the same thing, especially if you're getting tired of waiting for Sony to act on this.
