mine gets to 99%, then it just freezes there. i called sony and theyre saying its not an official update and that the latest data was 4.20. it says that the system cannot start when i go to restore file system, it gets too 100% and it doesnt restart because it cant find the right storage unit...help me!
Hey everyone, I experienced the same thing yesterday, and got that same error code, the way I solved is that i formatted my HD using my laptop since it didn't let me get into safe mode. I hooked it up with the external case, ran the format using HP usb format software, because it must be formatted in FAT32 otherwise the ps3 won't recognise it. After formating it, I underwent error check, so as to make sure there arent any corrupted sects on the HD, after that you have to have FW v4.20 on a usb drive, you can download that from the PS site obviously, when you put back your HD in the ps3, turn it on and follow the on-screen instructions. It will then ask you to plug in your usb copntaining the FW v4.20. plug your usb, finish the process and your done.
As for backing up your data, i'm not sure of the matter, but i think you can back it up from your computer also maybe by image. i didn't do any back up coz i didn't have any data. if there was a way into the back up utility of the ps3 then no prob but otherwise your data will be lost.
i have a ps3 that downloads the update to 51%, turns off, then turns back on again, same thing happens over and over...i have alot of data on my hd that i dont want to lose, dont know if files are corrupted, dont know jack!!!...now i also have ANOTHER ps3 (both are slim models) with a non working bluray player that i just bought for a cheap price, anyhow im wondering if i was able to format the hdd in the one with the broken bluray drive, transfer files from the one with the download problem to the one with the broken bluray, format the drive on the one with the download problem (what im thinking will happen is with a CLEAN hdd there should be no problem obtaining the new update, and no i dont have a USB) and re-transfer the files back? and would all of my data be able to be saved/transferred without any hiccups?
