I've been having quite a few problems with freezing lately. This only started after the firmware update 4.30 before that everything had been working just perfectly. Since then with Battlefield 3, NBA 2k13, and Skryim my playstation keep freezing at the same points for no reason. Any help with the issue is greatly appreciated! Is it the games or my system? Anyone else having these problems?

Go to safe mode on your PS3.

If you don't know how to get to safe mode, then hold the power button in until you hear two beeps.

Make sure you hear two beeps not one.

Then go to file system restore

It should fix any corrupted files.

Another thing I recommend doing is going to game data utility on the XMB menu. Once there scroll down to the games you are having troubles with. Hit triangle on the game and select delete. This is only the updates that are for the game. Don't worry it won't delete any game data you've saved.

Will doing a file system restore effect any of my save data? I'm assuming not but I want to make sure

It shouldnt unless it finds a file that is actually corrupted. I do this about once a month and its never erased anything. And I am a huge skyrim fan but that one freezing is probably the game. the best way I have found to avoid the freezes is to turn off ALL the autosaves. Even to one that is a timed thing can be disabled. Just have to remember to manually save randomly. Unfortunately tho you will most likely need to start a new game to get past where it already freezes.
