I'm working on a friends Slim PS3.  I've encountered a problem I've never dealt with before.  The system turns on and after 42 seconds it turns off no beep and no red light or any light what so ever.  I've pulled the hard drive out cleaned the terminals and even replaced it with a hard drive that I know worked in my PS3.  Still nothing is working so far.  I'm guessing it could possibly be a power supply issue.  If it helps they said someone knocked their system off of their entertainment center.  Any information would be helpful.  Thanks.

A power supply issue is very unlikely.  If the power supply was broken or faulty, the PS3 wouldn't run for anywhere near 42 seconds.

I've got the exact same situation under the same circunstances. The console has been knocked off a rack, worked for few hours, I turned it off then next morning while trying to turn it on I got the green light for 42 seconds then the system is off. No lights, no video. I press the power button and the red light is on, press it again more 42 seconds of green light and so it goes.. any idea??

It is your power supply u need a new one. The reason is u knocked loose either one or multiple connections and they are getting enough stored power to turn on the system but not enough to sustain the connection and keep the system on. I've seen this happen two times b4 and the new powersuply fixed it with no problems
