The following things WERE selling points Sony used to get me to purchase the console.
1. Playstation Network
2. Backwards compatibility
3.Blu-ray playback
4. OtherOS install
Anyone claiming that taking out #4 is any different from taking out #1-3 is just plain confused. Sony's security issues are none of my concern. I dont care if someone pirates EVERYTHING they sell. I paid for these features and making me choose between them is wrong.
Lets say you buy a new Honda and a couple years later a Honda exec shows up and tells you that you can either keep the engine or the seats because a guy in another town figured out that the seats can be installed in another type of car. Honda doesn't want you to put your seats in a Toyota... Its your car though, you can keep the seats but you have to give up the engine.
^Honestly who wouldn't beat that guy's ass?
PSN is a SELLING POINT not a privelege. Why not BAN pirates from the network rather than force out people using OtherOS the way SONY themselves said it was supposed to be used!

Actually, Sony is holding all multiplayer, online games and protected content at gunpoint, so yes- they are!

They ARE making me choose between features I paid for!
I paid to be able to have OtherOS AND PSN!
"It only does everything"!!!
I bet you assclowns would feel different if they cut blu-ray playback because pirated blu-ray discs became a big issue.

They are? So they are forcing you to update or they will shoot you in the face? I thought they were just making it so you couldnt play games...but I guess to some people....not being about to play Modern Crapfare 2 online is a fate worse then death.
You paid 500 for a PS3 3 years ago, things change. Do you feel you should get a $200 refund because they dropped the price? Playing online games isn't a life or death situation, neither is having Other OS

Actually they kind of are to be fair about it, but saying that they are well within their rights to do what they did regarding the otheros feature removal on what is THEIR property and to the folks complaining - that element of your PS3 is the only element that is NOT YOURS!!!
How stupid and ignorant are some people really? when it comes to software, royalties, licenses and terms of service etc, your rights as a human being don't come into it the way it would with hardware. It's a whole different ballgame to anything else and is it's own realm of rules entirely and it's been that way since the dawn of time with software - which is exactly what the XMB and OtherOS is - and it may come as a shock to you but the XMB on that PS3 of yours well that element of it is, does, always has and always will belong to Sony and not you. End of topic.

So could they just remove the XMB tomorrow and my PS3 will just turn on to a blank screen? Are you telling me that its completely legal to not deliver the features used to sell the item?
Also.. how does Sony's **bleep** taste?
Im sure if they removed a feature you actually used you wouldn't be acting like some pretentious **bleep**.
