Mine had a HGST drive and my 1TB M8 works fine. BUT I bought it last year for the PS3 and 3.0 gb/s is too fast for the PS3 so I just held on to it. Fully works fine. Have no idea about the 2TB one. This M8 drive has been in for 3 months with NO problems. Maybe they did something to it over the course of a year?
I've just installed the drive (seagate backup plus 2tb) into my PS4 and it's working perfectly. Performed a few shutdowns and standbys and it resumed normally. I did format the drive to FAT32 on my PC because it was originally NTFS, which I don't think the PS4 supports. The drive also had some Seagate software on there.
My original PS4 drive was a HGST 500gb drive.
hi there did you first format the drive seagate backup plus 2tb on your computer from ntfs to fat32 then you put it into the ps4. As i have also the same drive i put it in the ps4 and loaded up the software on usb and everything worked fine. but the problem is that when you shut it down completely the ps4 and then turn it on the system then u will get a blue light on the ps4 continously blinking. i had same drive as you the hgst 500gb then i upgraded to the new 2tb samsung spinpoint m9t. But for me i put it on stand by that way when i turn the ps4 on it comes on with no prblem. please let me know if someone has a solutiion to this blue light of death. please sony fix this problem with this hdd with a firmware uopdate
Formatting to FAT32 isn't a solution. I did it before i installed hdd to console, but i got this issue too.
I think that this is maybe different sata controllers on different ps4, one of thoose causing this issue.
i contacted support today and they said you can only upgrade the hdd to 1tb at this time ?!? i then said i have tried a 1.5 tb hdd and it works fine and the FAQ's say 2tb are compatible. after talking about the solutions stated in this thread they said they'll pass the info on to their tech team and atm they recoomend i use the 500gb hdd till the 2tb patch release. asked for an approximate eta and all i got was soon :/
Just tried 1.62 aswell no luck but i did find something interestig if you put the PS4 into standby mode and switch it back on the 2tb works fine. i have tried it multiple times and it works. im just gunna leave it on standby until they fix it.
Please try it and see if it works for you too
Thanks iky_g for contacting support. The more people that contact support, the more likely we will see a fix soon. Everybody that is having this problem, please call support.
1. Resuming from standby always works for me.
2. Holding the power button down for 6-6.5 seconds when booting works all the time if you ever shutdown the PS4 completely.
