Fun game with bad balancing (look at World Rankings):

I really like this game. The single player is mediocre, but the multiplayer is a lot of fun. However, I wish they had put more effort into balancing the characters. The balancing in this game is really bad. Take a look at the world rankings. On the main menu go to tournament and then choose season leaderboard.

I looked at the top 20 highest ranked players in the world, and I found 5 Kratoses, 4 Drakes, and 3 Raidens, the three characters most people complain about in nerf threads. If the game is balanced, then why are more than 50% of the top spots belonging to only 3 characters? No other character besides these three appears twice in the top 20. If you scroll down the rankings you'll see a lot more of Drake and Kratos, as well as several Slys.

The highest ranked Sir Daniel comes in at 47, and he's the only Sir Daniel in the top 100. There isn't a single Big Daddy, Dante, or Radec in the top 100.

Like I said, I really enjoy this game. But nearly half of the top 100 players are Slys, Drakes, and Kratoses. Yeah, there are a few oddball appearances by characters such as Jak, Sackboy, or Parappa, but they're definitely in the minority.

And this is only looking at FFA balancing.

1v1 is so much worse.

The main 2 things that makes the roster unbalanced are the supers (which are ridiculously unbalanced) and the kill confirms (in that some characters have more and/or easier ones than others). But with that said as time passes, people will figure out new stuff with new characters. Take E. Cole for example. Before the footage of Dabuz at Smash, everyone thought he was mid tier, and now they think otherwise.

Yeah every time I play this game (now it's like once a month, not more) I remember when, even before it was released, everyone here said that it was more balanced than Brawl... Lol. Don't get me wrong Brawl is kinda broken too, but there isn't a character that if it's in the game it's gonna win no matter what. In PSABR Raiden is that character, you must be retarded or never play any kind of videogame to lose using him. It's outrageous.

every fighting game has their favourites.. street fighter ryu, mortal kombat sub zero and scorpion, tekken jin, kazuya and lars. this is normal. nobody plays in tekken bryan fury. or in street fighter with blanka. or in mortal kombat with kitana. i think u understand my point

Sure every fighting game is not 100% balanced, but no fighting game is unbalanced as PSABR (and I don't think that Ryu, Sub Zero and Scorpion are OP at all, it seems like you just picked the protagonists of their respective games). Also, the last Tekken has like 60 characters in it. PSABR with not even 1/3 of that managed to make a more unbalanced roster... A LOT more...

I have always troubles beating a Raiden even with my mains (Jak, Drake) and even if he's controlled by a new gamer. He's simply overpowered to say the least.

I disagree, I find All-Stars to be one of the most balanced games that I've played. The point of Augustus' post was not saying that the characters listed were OP, but popular. The same thing is going on with All-Stars.

Kratos, Drake, Raiden; they are all part of the popular clique. That is more than ok, people gravitate towards them because they are easy to pick up and do well with while also being cool characters in themselves. Though if they are chosen in a match between 2 evenly skilled players, they shouldn't have the natural advantage and it should be a pretty close match. (in most cases)

Popular =/= OP. The reason we hear people whine about them more than anyone is because they are seen more than anyone. Constantly fighting them is creating an annoyance, which is then being misinterpreted as overpowered.

For FFA, you may be right. For 1v1 and 2v2 however, you are dead wrong. Look at offline tournaments; not a Kratos to be found, Drakes are rare, and Raiden does place, but he hits low as often as high. Why? Because they're so overused due to their strength in FFA that everyone knows how to fight them for the most part.

Take a look at some recent tournament results (Only did a quick search):

-Can't find the results, but I know that top 2 were Evil Cole and Sweet Tooth for Xsmash, with a Dan in 5th. Forget the rest.

I want to point out that Kratos is one of the few characters to never hit top 5, whereas Dan shows up twice and even Big Daddy and Dante made it up there once each (Though granted no Radec).

Sadly the Pasta League results aren't up to date yet, otherwise I'd point you towards those as well.

Uhhh what? Raiden is very much beatable; much moreso than Metaknight is in Brawl. With the exception of certain characters needing mild tweaks (And it really is mild tweaks. For example slowing Raiden's Forward square startup or removing the super armor from EC's Giga punch would change the characters quite a bit, despite being but a small change.), this is a really well balanced game.

But yeah, Raiden struggles with both Coles and FP at the very least, going even or close to it with a lot of other characters (Like Big Daddy for example).

Honestly, fighting Kratos, Drake, and Raiden over and over makes them easier to fight. They become easier to read and more predictable.
