Re: New Status Effect: Fire

[ Edited ]

So Beige Mage gave me an idea in another thread: since a part of the effect involves spreading fire, what if certain attacks were defined by power-output based on the length of time the fire stays, or the size of the area affected when the victim runs?

Sweet Tooth's molotov would be the smaller level fire while Sir Dan's potion would be a large-sized inferno. Essentially, the victim would be "carrying" a large quantity of flames around themself, thus creating a larger effect (on either side of where they're standing).

The Dragon potion lasts about 5 seconds on its own currently while the molotov is 3 seconds. Maybe we could introduce a 1-second flame so that Evil Cole, Big Daddy and Fat Princess could set opponents on fire for a very brief moment. That wouldn't overpower them very much.

This could also give an incentive to commit to flame-thrower type attacks. Imagine if gettting a small bite from Radec's flamethrower was 3 seconds worth of ignition, while getting hit by the full attack was worth 6 seconds (the exact amount of hits the attack gives off). The same system could be used for Tooth's fire breath.

The way I have it now, it looks kind of silly that BD's Incinerate plasmid won't set people on fire, even though it does that in Bioshock. By giving a distinct time-of-effect and area-of-effect to the individual attacks themselves, we could open up a lot more possibilities for balance.

I think all the game's status effects should have this.

Well this feels weird: this crazy idea has more kudos than my Dart build. That kind of bugs me because I consider that move-list to be my magnum opus on this forum.

I guess there's a lot of pyros posting hereSmiley Frustrated

So here we are, at 35 Kudos (thankfully my Dart build surpasses it by 5). This was easily my most successful idea. Are you watching, SSM?

I think my most successful idea was about the sequel cinematic intro. It got the best reception, though I haven't had that many ideas. None of which got terrible reception.

Just not as good as the sequel cinematic intro.
