Kudos for what?

Is this all political and whatever do you get from it. How do you get a kudos for a thread or a reply that does not even help out anyone at all. Is this a butt kissing thing or is this even a groupie thing. Come on guys, make them earn it. Since i have been on the forums i have never been helped once. All i had was another question to my question or a useless reply and next thing i know they got a kudos for it. Pfft. heller!!! I think most of these forum people are bogus and they just try to sound as if they know what they're saying. Not to mention all the replies are get are nothing but sarky remarks trying to make me sound as if i don't know what I'm talking about. Please people, reply if you could actually be useful because you are just flooding the thread.

Re: Kudos for what?

You get kudos by others clicking on the +* thing on your post.

You give kudos by clicking on that same button on someone else's post.

People give kudos for lots of reasons, whether it be for agreeing with the statement or lulz.

Two things:

1. This discussion has nothing to do with Home, but the forums, in general, and yet receives Kudos ("thread or a reply that does not even help out anyone at all")

2. People give Kudos subjectively. You may not agree with someone's post that received a Kudos or the reason why they received it, but someone else may have.

As a side note and a possible third thing - there is a lot of butt-kissing on the forums, but so what? It doesn't affect gameplay on Home nor does it affect anybody on the forums.

Re: Kudos for what?

There is a lot of butt-kissing in regards to kudos being given. Watch for any post by a mod (especially GlassWalls), and you will see kudos being given for every post a mod makes.
There are people on the forums who hand them out as intended, but there are also those who will kudos every single post a mod makes, even if one was to post "You are all a bunch of losers, and we are using you to line our own pockets."

Kudo's aren't needed. Likes were fine at Jive. Nobody kept score. Do away with the Numbers and the Leaderboards. Posting to a forum should not be a competition.

I posted something similar to the following elsewhere.

___
Kudo's should not be the determining factor with respect to determining who the top participants are and what are the top discussions. With respect to discussions for example why should kudo's to the OP be a determining factor?  It seems a lot more reasonable to me to use a number of factors to weight what is important and not simply one. For example a number of factors could be used to weight the importance as follows:

Popular Discussions

Number of  Views

Number of Replies

Number of Kudo's or Likes per Thread

Top Participants

Number of Posts

Number of Threads Started

Number of Kudos or Likes

Time as a Member of the Forum

Combine those and don't simply use Kudo's as the yardstick for determining the quality of a post or thread or user for that matter. I'm sure other criteria could be added as well in determining the importance of a participant or discussion.

Re: Kudos for what?

Hmm, I'm torn. I agree with you railing against the kudos so I don't know if I should give you kudos when you seem anti-kudos. I'll have to think about it.

As far as your other comment, there are some really nice people who will try to help others around these parts, but yeah theres also some who will try to belittle and make you feel like you have no right asking for help or expressing a concern. Ignore 'em..and ignore their ill-gotten kudos.

I'll throw caution to wind and give you kudos anyway..like it or not.

Re: Kudos for what?

i thought i saw a number next to the likes on the jive forums.  if you happened to like a post it would show "you and 3 other liked" you could then click it and it would bring up a bubble (one of the few times i prefered the bubble over loading a new page) and show whoelse liked that particular post.

hehe, i kudo'd you all XD

It did show numbers on indivual posts but those numbers were not reflected on any leader board and they certainly weren't used to determing what the top discussions were or the top participants.
