Lets try Family math where 1 man and 1 woman have a child and that makes 3.

Now the child grows up and finds a mate and they have a child ( 2 original parents + the 2 New Parents = a 5 family unit with the child / grandchild.

It doesn't get more outside the box than that... the word you're looking for is random, you literally want us to guess what you're thinking.

This is a 'historical' mathematical jokes...

The answer is yes...provided 2 is 'big enough', per se., and rounding is permitted..
For example...
2.36 + 2.44 = 4.8...rounded to 2 + 2 = 5..

and for 1 + 1 = 3

Let x=y.  Then

  x - y + y =  y

  x - y + y    y
  --------- = ---
     x-y      x-y

         y     y
    1 + --- = ---
        x-y   x-y

          1 = 0

Now we know that 1 = 1, so add the following three equations together:

1 = 0
1 = 1
1 = 1

On the right is 1+1, and on the left is 3 ones, and 3 ones make 3.
