Guys, I have a request.
First off, I am sorry that this is very hassling but I would really appreciate some participation.
I would like any of you to take a picture of your VITA with the screenshot(s) I am going to provide: -on maximum brightness, -in a dark environment (or totally dark).
(*I'd still greatly appreciate it if you just make use of one of the screenhots, preferrably
the one with a dude walking along the corridor [Silent Hill: Book of Memories] -because that seems to be the darkest)

It would also be nice (but not neccessary) if you have another device that would show the same screen shot.. on maximum brightness like my photos.. like a smarphone, PSP, DS, Ipod, Nexus 7, etc.
These are my photos for comparison:
Top to bottom: iPhone 4S, PSP 3000, PS VITA

The reason for this is that Sony has requested for me to find more proof that my VITA is unusually dark.
I have already shown them these sets of photos that I took, admitted that it "seems dark", but proceeded to still doubt saying they were still "..not sure..".. I even emphasized that the VITA was on maximum brightness and that it's much worse even on typical room lighting condition.
They said they'll be filing a report to the higher ups with my photos attached.
They even told me to try and contact the publishers of the game, show the same photos, and ask if it's meant to look that way.
I've already sent queries (with my photos attached) to Ubisoft, Konami and Atlus.
I also said to Sony that this was a long shot to get the publishers serious about our interests but the Sony rep still insisted for me to try.
Sony said to call them again this Friday.
I would understand if you find it too bothersome and I am sorry for the hassle.
Thanks in advance for any participation.. even if just through text.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with the screens. The "dark" environments are meant to be that way. The Vita screen is bigger and more vibrant in some cases, so it doesn't seem that bad.

Agreed with the others. The screenshots on the iPhone and PSP look washed out. Dark areas are supposed to be dark and the OLED screen of the Vita can handle that a lot better than other handhelds. You ever play a PC game on max settings that had dark areas? Not so suprisingly, they're dark and very difficult to see in
.

Went to a GS store today, the same one I tested my old units with (I juggled with 3 VITAs last year).. Their unit was definitely much brighter showing better dark details (You know that VIDEO app logo? It has quite some dark details there.. mine couldn't be seen.. I replicated the VITA store screen with my unit).
It was very yellow though.
I remember using my "green tinted" vita screen there and mine was brighter than their store unit.. So I guess my new VITA is just dim.
I guess it is something very hard to show on pictures because my camera isn't as sensitive as our eyes for referencing.
My particular unit is "Crushing Blacks" (-losing too much details in the dark = I found the term yesterday).. this is also what the 360 does to its video output and is a PITA for videophiles with a calibrated setup.
Makes me wonder if this is really within the range of Sony's Q.C.

its called contrast! "Deep Blacks". Have you noticed also that the other colors are just as rich as the blacks are?
The other screens you showing here don't look good AT ALL!! They're all white-washed. that removes details!
I have a Sony Bravia TV that also has the Deep Blacks just like the Vita's rich screen.
IT SUPPOSED to be Wickedly dark at those points. i have friend who turns up his brightness like these shots so he can see better insted of getting the experience the developers are trying to portrait.

As Polo said, that's how it is.
If I play any game on my HDTV, I have to set the brightness and color settings myself, because if I set to "Vivid" (which is kind of like how the Vita is), it makes the blacks too dark for me to see where I am looking for games in which this is important.
But technically, that's how it's supposed to look. I just prefer to be able to see.

call tech support. bully the tier 1 agent into either getting it setup for service or ask for a manager and have them do it for you
