There's no point in supporting your crap dial up. Most games track way too much data these days for 56k to even be considered.

When, you add physics in multiplayer games, just FORGET 56k. Many ps3 games, will be full of server tracked physics if they are online.

Broadband only makes for a better game.

hey,man.. the thing is alot of people are saying to people upgrade or,forget about it, im just reminding people not everyone has a choice in,the matter...
,alot of the posts on this thread was basically overlooking that fact..

No 56k is a good thing. Sure it will alienate some people, but at the,end its the quality of games you're playing that counts, especially, online. Broadband only is the way to go. If you are still on 56k, sorry, but get a faster connection or move out of the way.

It's like when someone is just downright ugly. They can't help and they are stuck with it, they just need to accept it. Just like when you are stuck with 56k. Too bad. The online gaming world has moved on. Maybe some day you'll move to where you have broadband or it will come to you.

It's going to be the have and have nots.

If you don't have BROADBAND by now, one is out of luck.

Having the just Ethernet ports will force the US Government to bring HIGH SPEED INTERNET to each home.

The Playstation® 3 has capability of Gigabit Ethernet.  That shows that Playstation® 3 should be taken seriously.

XBOX 360 doesn't specifically tell on http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm if it has Gigabit Ethernet or not!

Like previous Playstation® 2 from other countries, US & North American version were the only ones with 56k & Ethernet.  Other PS2™ were Ethernet only.

The XBox didn't support dial-up either. And from the Specs, the ethernet port on the 360 is 10/100Mbps.

As for the government in America pushing broadband to everyone, it won't happen, and if it does, expect extreme censorship the likes of what China has, because they would control the Internet and all the content on it.

Gigabit ethernet (1000 gbps) is overkill.
,
,Considering online games run fine on a normal 1.5 mbps Cable/DSL connection, even 10 mbps ethernet is more than plenty.
,
,Gigabit ethernet does not equal better online/networking peformance.

Most cable/DSL service providers will cap you WELL below a gigabit, so don't get too excited over it just yet.  Also, just because you have a gigabit connection to your service provider does not mean that your transfer rates to a single server will sustain a gigabit transfer rate or anything even close to it.  Not to mention that games shouldn't be sending massive amounts of data anyway... could you imagine the bandwidth required at the other end?

,

Remember that your data is still travelling across the internet from server to server.  A lot of people fail to realise that a lot of lag comes from these servers.  You could have a gigabit connection to your ISP, the SOCOM servers could be completely empty, and you could still suffer lag if some server between you and the SOCOM servers is congested or down.  You could have a massive pipe... but poke a big hole in it and it may be no better than a garden hose.  LAG cannot be completely cured by better gaming hardware or better game programming.

,

As for 56K connections... people with LANs at home can still share a 56K connection.  If your PS3 is part of that LAN, it can use that 56K connection as well.  So again, don't get too excited about dropping all the 56K users because you just know that some players will insist on playing with their 56K connections even if the game turns into a slideshow.

Actually dropping 56k is something to be excited about.

,

Never seeing a player warping 10 feet at a time across my screen (these ARE ALWAYS people with pings at 200 or above and 56k) is something to get excited about.

,

Code that is optimised for broadband only too.

,

It should be better all around.

I have a question about ethernet cables in general. are there ethernet, cables out there that allow for faster data transfer to cut a little, bit of lag down if there is any? I have cable internet and was just, wondering if someone makes ethernet cables that make your internet run,a tad bit faster. Like instead of using the standard cables the,modem/router comes with someone sells quality cables for a higher, price, but it also improves the performance
