Dual Shock 4 - No More Analog Buttons... Opinions ??

[ Edited ]
40 replies 1036 views Edited Jul 20, 2013

The new Dual Shock 4, unlike the previous dual shock 3 and 2, does not have any analog buttons - the face buttons and L1/R1 are now digital (i.e. they are no longer pressure sensitive). The  L2/R2 triggers are the only analogs.

There were lots of games especially during the PS2 era that used the analogue features of the face buttons.

some people prefer using the classic PS2 controls for driving games and GTA games - X instead of R2 for driving.

if you are playing a game on gaikai - how you would perform some of the actions on the DS4, that required the use of the analog buttons in previous generations ?? - will there not be less actions possible if you get rid of the analog buttons ??

examples: - driving games (accelerating), sports games (sprinting, how hard you throw/kick etc.), as well as games like mgs and gta (i used the classic PS2 controls for gta4).

I also hope we have the option to choose between R1 and R2 in shooting games.

what are peoples thoughts ??

Ever hear the expression "Six of one, a half dozen of the other"? Probably not.

We're splitting hairs here people, and venturing into obsessive compulsive territory. Really now, who honestly cares? You press the button. Does it work? Yeah it works. That's about all that really matters. Is it really that important to scrutinize every single detail? This just being pedantic.

are you a mod ??

your not very helpful, there is not need to make posts if they are not constructive.

i didnt think anything of removing vibrations from the Dual Shock 3, that literally offered nothing in terms of player input (only output - vibration if you crash etc.) - that really was completely overblown, not having rumble didnt stop you from playing games that were designed with rumble - i still only have my original sixaxis.

removing analog is different.

Hate it. Why? Well, I LOVE playing Grand Theft Auto on playstation. I got used to playing it on playstation and didn't want to switch how I had been playing it for years. The ps2 games' default controls made use of the pressure sensitive X for the gas. As soon as I got GTA IV and then the episodes this gen, the first thing I did was switch to classic controls and that will be the first thing I do for GTA V unless that no longer gives me the option.

Guess next gen GTA I'm going to have to use controls that feel awkward to me.

MY suggestion for PS Now Pricing because the system right now is horrible.
----------------
-$1 for a day -$5 for a week -$20+ (use MSRP) to buy forever

Don't like it? A. Can the service because I have a ps3 already and will not sit by and be price gouged like this or B. integrate it into ps+ either completely or for like an extra 10 bucks a month.
