I've both a Vita and a 3DS. There were some attractive reasons to buy the 3DS when I did back in 2011. Among these was that getting Super Mario 3D Land would be priority one. Then there was obviously Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon coming up soon, at least it was supposed to. 2012 lost the game in its pages, but luckily there were some other quality titles to pass the time, including Paper Mario: Sticker Star.
When I bought a Vita in Late 2013, I thought that Tearaway might be sort of a good game, maybe. Based on it being from Media Molecule, whose LittleBigPlanet series wasn't exactly my cup of tea, I wasn't exactly thinking the game would turn out to be as enticing as it would ultimately be. Then of course there was the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which people claimed to be incredible (it isn't) and there was a sale for Limbo currently happening in the Plus database. Figured I might as well shell out the cash and maybe by some slight chance more Vita games would step into the light.
So here we are about half-a-year later. There's currently only one game I'm looking forward to for the Vita specifically... well, make that two I suppose. Tales of Hearts R will be a port of the Japanese-only 3DS game. With this being a series I've gotten into over the past couple of years, I'll give the game a shot. Without there really being any extensive amount of known games coming up besides multiplatform content, it's actually nearly impossible to think of any good solid reasons why anyone out there should buy a Vita.
Of the games that are solely Vita-bound, there's the sequel to Gravity Rush (which is one of the many gaming failures I've been exposed to) and then there's Freedom Wars coming... which doesn't look impressive in the least. Is there anything that isn't already known specifically for the Vita on the way that people really ought to go out on a limb for? I could've bought Borderlands 2 back in 2012 on the PlayStation 3. I didn't because I didn't really care to play the game. I can go get Hohokum this August for the PlayStation 4. It can be played on the Vita too, but why go through the bother of touch controls when the graphics and gameplay will probably be better on the console version? While Tearaway is one such game I'd highly recommend to anyone who wants a Vita, what more is there to say at this point that makes this a much better hardware (and a pricier one at that) than the 3DS?
