External Hard drive question

4 replies 78 views Edited Jan 21, 2012

Ive been doing some looking around but cant quite find an answer for this.

I just got a western digital 2.5 TB hard drive with a 500GB FAT32 partition on it for the ps3. I did the partitioning and formatting in OSX.

the ps3 recognizes the drive and can see the files but is not able to copy or play them.

the video files are all in avi. i later copied them over to a usb drive and they played fine off that.

can anyone help out with getting them to play off my harddrive?

sorry in advance if this has already been answered.

That is strange. I play AVI files with my WD partition every time.

What codecs do you use?

PS3 Media Server. Done.

With a media server you dont even need to mess with formatting. And I've been able to copy the data as well.

I dont think the codecs are the problem. all the exact same files work perfectly off a flash drive. again, the ps3 can see the HDD and the files. when it tries to open them, it crashes and goes back to the xmb.
