Green Tint or Vertical Lines, which would you keep?

----- ----- ----- ----- -----

*Actually wanted to get another replacement but Amazon ran out of stock :'(

----- ----- ----- ----- -----

Guys, can you help me decide on which VITA to keep?

My original VITA has vertical lines most noticeable on a much solid brown, red or gray background. The replacement that arrived had negligible vertical lines, about 10% brighter but has a yellow-green tint to it.

Here's a few image samples:

Here's Assassins Creed Sample 1:

The one below is the older unit and you can see that it has quite some vertical lines there BUT check out the tree barks and the river details/contrast.

The screen with vertical lines actually shows tree barks that are brown and the water has more "detail" and contrast to them. Not just a few shades of green

..and here's Assassin's Creed Sample 2 (set):

(New Vita):

Here's some shopped screenies of ACL that I made where I tried to emphasize on what I perceive it as:

(Old Vita):

(New Vita):

..Here's a photo of Uncharted that I took with a $ 100.00 Point and Shoot, 14,1 MP camera:

(Here's shopped:smileyhappy:

-slightly grainy because of the vertical lines but the colors are more accurate and neutral. Better contrast too (easier to spot the separation of grays of cement, brown of the barks and green of the leaves).

(New Vita:smileyhappy:

-slightly sharper and brighter but worse on contrast (everything has a tint of green).

Here's how I see Google and most white texts in game:

(New Vita:smileyhappy:

Vertical Lines extravaganza:

(New Vita:smileyhappy:

Sadly, I can only keep one until the dead line for needing to return one of the units.

So, which would you guys personally prefer?:

Old Vita:
+ Neutral colors
+ Better contrast
+ White is actually white

- Vertical Lines

New Vita:
+ Slightly brighter overall image
+ Slightly sharper overall image
+ No vertical lines (I don't think the average person would notice them)

- Yellow-green tint across the board, anytime, anywhere.

..w/c would you keep/prefer and why?

I'd appreciate your responses.

Thanks in advance :smileyhappy:

i'd go with green tint... in fact that might just be how all vitas that don't have vertical lines look...

My vita has those lines too. Its pretty normal, as well as black splotches on all black backgrounds. I guess its just an OLED thing. The vertical lines look less-intense on the tinted one though, so I guess i'd go with that one. But I guess if I were you i'd keep sending the thing back until you get one that you are happy with ^_^

OMG! I thought of that too!

If you're really try to look.. guess what the color of the vertical lines are? Yes, that's right: GREEN!

The VITA that seems to have just strands of the GREEN vertical lines make the colors appear neutral. It's as if the green vertical lines have been "combed" out.

The VITA that has no vertical lines have a GREEN tint.. lol

Also, how did you think that most VITA's without vertical lines have a green to/or yellow tint?

@Ming_Dragon:

Do you see those lines too during the darker background shades of red/brown/gray?

Apparently Sony and/or Samsung opted out of a technology that prevents them from happening during manufacturing:

http://www.ignisinnovation.com/technology/ignis-technology-overview/ignis-admo-p-technology

..and the sad part is there's really no official response from Sony. Makes me think there are actually a lot of "perfect" screens but they have poor quality control since they think the average person won't care and are passive consumers.

I've heard a lot of stories having to need to get at least 4 replacements until some just gave up.

--- --- --- --- ---

I actually called Sony about it. The live chat support told me it needs to be serviced for 129 dollars even if I just bought it brand new, last black friday.

Good think the live telephone support sent me a box to where I need to put the vita for evaluation.. BUT, I called again for cancellation and told them, I'd want to use up my PS+ subscription first.. She told me that when I receive the box, I should just not send it in within 30 days.. so it will automatically cancel the order.

I asked if that would give me trouble when I ask some other time for a replacement and she said it won't.

What do you think? :smileysad:

Isn't this covered under the warranty?

How do I answer thee? xD Others seem able to.

My experience:

Experience 1: Called Sony over the phone, described the situation, sent me a box where I should put the system in then ship it back to them for free for evaluation.

(I tried to cancel it saying that I wanted to use up my PS+ subscription first, told me that I should just let the box rot for 30 days in my house and the service order will be automatically cancelled)

Experience 2: Contacted Sony through live chat by some dude called: Johnny D. Told him I have vertical lines and ocassionally some horizontal lines depending on the background image show on the display. He told me that my unit is OUT OF WARRANTY and needs to be serviced for 129 USD.

Experience 2: Dug around Sony's site regarding my issue:

http://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3745/~/ps-vita-picture-problems

"Are there any lines or spiderweb like effects on the screen?
If there are lines or spiderweb effects on the screen, this indicated that the PS Vita screen is damaged. The system is considered out of warranty and will need service. Check out our cracked screen article to learn how to identify if your screen is cracked."

 - some person told me that this should be illegal and is grounds for legal action.
