The playstation 2 was overhyped, but not completly by sony.  Alot of the hype was by speculators and by message boards.

I'm worried that Sony may be up to their same old tricks again. I am of course talking about the huge hype made about the PS2 and the "toy story" like graphics. Supposed 70 million polygons that got decreased to 7 million. Everything they've spoken of so far looks really good on paper, but the fact of the matter is, the PS3 is still vaporware. We have no idea how all these big numbers Sony is throwing out will actually pan out when it's released. They lied last time and it made them millions. There's no reason why they couldn't be again. Don't take this to be anti-sony or pro-microsoft because I love both (see screenname). I also plan to buy both, though I'll most likely wait for PS3 since it'll be around 465 dollars.

At the moment, all next gen machines are still vaporware.  I wouldn't be too concerned about Sony being "up to their same old tricks".  Sony has a lot at stake here, and they have serious competition with the X360.  If the disappoint, they will lose their lead in the market...and that is what they are playing for, to lead the market.  I, personally, don't see them overhyping the PS3.  They have been very quiet, which I think is because of the negativity with the PS2 hype.  Just my opinion, though.

Both machines are going to be really nice, I'm convinced of that.  Whoever has the best "exclusives" will sell more consoles.  I don't think it will be the online services that do it (Less than 10% of XBox owners subscribe to Live), because most gamers don't play online yet.  Still, Sony needs to bring their "A game" to try and compete with Xbox Live.  Otherwise, they could lose that segment of the market.

Read this thread.  I don't think you can at all say Sony boards are worse than the Xbox boards.

Just look at how many people registered after May 16 2005 (the day Sony unveiled PS3) and read their posts.  Some of them are impressed by the PS3/X360/Revo E3 conferences so they registered and want to talk about next-gen.  This is why we have a E3 board here.

,

What about the rest of the people who registered after May 16 2005?  Did they register here because they want to talke about the PS3?  No.  They registed here and they are trying to tell the world that Xbox 360 is better than PS3, or Microsoft is a more honorable/honest company than Sony.  It's like they are missionaries for the X360.

Yep.  I've seen people who registered after May 16 who have more posts in two weeks than I have in 6 months. LOL
