Re: THE ALL-NEW DAISENRYAKU PERFECT HD INFORMATION THREAD

Jan 21, 2014

@cnlbenmc,

Great to see you again!  To (do my best to) answer your question, all I can say at this point is that some developers are aware of the WWII Daisenryaku (both the PS3 and PC versions).  What you say makes sense given the fact these titles released well ahead of DSP HD for PS3; if anyone is considering them (and, let's say optimistically, both the WWII and DSPHD get brought here) I'd say the chances are good the WWII iteration would come over first.

But at this stage literally everything's a guess.  Whether (or how many) localization specialists have received evaluation copies of either game so far is unknown, and THAT'S the first thing that has to happen before anybody's going to make an announcement.

I would very much expect the WWII Daisenryaku to get a name change if it comes to the West; even Iron Storm for the Sega Saturn was name-changed by Working Designs in order to help its marketability.  Regardless of what name it might come here under, it looks AWESOME and I'd plunk down the cash in a heartbeat for it.

Lastly (on a different topic), I made some random inspections of the screenshots for other SystemSoft titles at their website, and ONLY DSP HD's have a little pop-up box when you mouse over them that reads "Screen Under Development".  Until February 6th (or whenever I receive my import copy) arrives, there's no way to know just how much of an improvement we can expect over those rough-as-a-cob initial battle cinematic shots.  But if DSP HD's engine is similar to the WWII Daisenryaku (a strong likelihood given how many menu similarities they share), then the final results could be genuinely beautiful.  Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Thanks again for checking in!  Please do so whenever you like and I'll do my best to answer whatever I can.

Till next time...

F-2

Appreciate the "bump", Neoprime666!  :smileyhappy:

I know things have been quiet here the past few days, but I figure that some of the community are "lurking" for now until there's more concrete information to share.  Hopefully it will be forthcoming soon, perhaps on SystemSoft's website when DSP HD's Japanese version launches on February 6th.  And as soon as I get my pre-order in, I'll try to upload pics and video and every bit of detail I can for you guys!

Thanks for hanging tough; I know all of this hasn't been easy.

EARLY JAPANESE REVIEWS AND REMARKS REGARDING DAISENRYAKU PERFECT HD

UPDATE:  Upon checking the aforementioned magazine this morning, I found that the site is indeed showing the new volume and DSP HD is listed for a two-page article within it, but unfortunately those pages weren't among the ones available to preview.

This morning SystemSoft's website mentioned an article in Games/Blitz (at least that's how Google translated it) dedicated to DSP HD.  After a difficult search I found that the magazine's website is still showing the previous volume, so the article isn't available yet to view.  However, I used copy/paste to do a web search of other Japanese websites and blogs over the past few days, and came up with a few sets of review scores, as well as some insight from Japanese gamers who responded to the blogs.

This is where you'd better sit down.

Among the three sets of review scores for DSP HD I was able to find, they were:

6/6/5/5

70/65/65/75

22

I have no idea exactly what these numbers mean (though I'm pretty sure they're based on 10 and 100-point scales, respectively).  They may be categorized by graphics, sound, gameplay, etc., or they could be the cumulative scores of separate reviewers at each publication.  But the scores are moderate at best and downright UGLY at worst.  The only article I was actually able to read (Google Translated, of course) ridiculed the 9 TIMES the game has been delayed (I guess we haven't been the only ones who've noticed, huh?) and jokingly wondered if it might set a Guinness World Record.

As I scanned through the translated remarks from Japanese posters who replied to that blog, I kept noticing a lot of "wwwww"s.  A quick Google search revealed the meaning: it's used by Japanese texters and means "laugh" or "smile".

Okay, BEFORE anyone hits the Panic Button or writes DSP HD off, let's keep a few things in mind:

1)  The game hasn't even been released yet in Japan, so NONE of those gamers had played it, obviously.  And NOWHERE could I find any new images from DSP HD, so there's still a very good chance that at least some of these reviews are working from old information, particularly where the game's graphics are concerned.

2)  Even in Japan I'm sure there's a bias against games without an emphasis on eye candy from a lot of gamers.  Let's face it; most of us played our first game of any given genre because something about its AESTHETICS appealed to us.  I know that graphics don't matter to most of this community, but that's why we keep getting overlooked by the industry (well, that and the fact that many gamers are too ADD-addled to appreciate cerebral gametypes to begin with).  Games with a "universal" appeal will be expected to sell better, hence why those "mainstream" titles always get the attention and the hype.  Yes, it's unfair to a lot of gamers, including us, but that's just the way it is.

3)  Daisenryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics for the PlayStation 2 and XBox received similar scores from the few American publications that bothered to review it, and I think we all agree that it turned out "okay" (yeah, that's a sarcastic understatement; the game will forever be a classic TBS title and one of my personal favorites of all time).

I'll be keeping a close eye on the magazine's website to see if the article includes any new pictures or a review score.  And in the meantime, the Japanese release date on February 6th keeps approaching.  As soon as I get my import copy in, you can bet that I'll be posting images and my own DETAILED REVIEW that's aimed specifically for those of us who appreciate turn-based strategy.

Here's hoping my score (which will be as frank and honest an assessment as possible) will be higher than these early Japanese reviews.

Keep in mind that X-Play (back when the show still existed) gave DS VII a 4 out of 5 when it came out for the original Xbox, I didn't always agree with their review scores or with how they treated the people who sent viewermail by the way but I did agree on this.  That show was in fact responsible for for my introduction to the series in the first place and in turn I found out about the old DSP HD forum when I stumbled across it in Dai Sen VII's wikipedia article that I looked at on a whim, funny the way some things turn out.

DSP HD JAPANESE VERSION RELEASED!!!!

As of a few moments ago, SystemSoft Alpha's website made the announcement that most of us have probably wondered whether it would ever happen: Daisenryaku Perfect HD has officially been released in Japan, both at retail as well as on the Japanese PSN Store.

I carefully looked over the game's page to see if I could glean anything new, but unfortunately everything else is exactly the same.  And my repeated attempts to find any descriptive reviews (as opposed to just number scores) have been unsuccessful as well; this has to be a seriously low-key release even in Japan.

So now, the wait for my import copy begins.  Once I receive it, I'll begin doing my level best to pull together as much useful information, screens, and hopefully videos as I can to share here, along with an honest review and assessment of DSP HD's chances of an official localization based upon what I see.

Stay tuned, and thanks so much to EVERYONE in our community for staying what has been a very difficult course.

I was trying to tell you the normal game comes out today and on the 6th this year, but the limited ediitons may come later this month, that's what I got from Play-Asia, but that can change, I think they said something about not having enough items(the books). I also saw it in the Japanese PSN store, looks the same about 1.5 GB's, and I think 6,098 yen, must of been the online partion holding things up.
