Well, I guess you could blame the Lego series for my distrust. Instead of getting something like the PS3 version of Lego Batman we got the 3DS version with slightly better graphics. Same thing could be said about the LotR version. But like I said, I hope I'm proven wrong. 2.5D for a game that has strong roots in Open World is one other concern but for all I know it'll be a brand new experience on its own~.

Arkham Asylum wasn't really open world. The "open" section really acted more like a hub that you played through just to get to the linear levels. The only thing open about it was that it allowed you to tackle areas in (almost) any order. I would say, if anything, Blackgate would lean more toward Asylum than City in that regard - maybe have an overworld where you can choose where to go for the actual 2.5D levels, but not much more than that in terms of an open world feel.

I never played the Lego games on Vita, so I can't really comment on them. I will say, however, that it seems developers have been realizing the Vita's graphical prowess more and more of late, whereas the aforementioned Lego games were developed within the Vita's first year (and development probably started with DKs even prior to it), so they probably didn't know the system's full potential when they were developing them and were being "safe" to ensure a solid, fluid experience.

I've played LEGO LoTR on the PS3 and on the PS Vita. The only LEGO video games I've actually played. Both are worlds better than the LEGO Starwars that my children play on the PS3, they firmly admit that, I see that it looks true (never once tempted to play their SW game!)

The difference between the PS3 and Vita versions of LoTR is amount of things one can do in PS3, length of the story, major pieces cut out of Vita version, but some things were good, how you can swim in water, but on PS3 no way. How you could find what you needed to look for in a special section, on the PS3 it's not so easy.

But saying that, the more open world approach on the PS3 is exactly what I wanted in the PS Vita version. It would have worked to put everything in that handheld version. I'd STILL have bought both versions.

I did have fun with it, but I fully beat the PS VIta one fast. I haven't finished the PS3 one yet, I'm close, but haven't touched it in months now, I'm wanting to get back to it, but other things distract me. It's as time consuming as the first Assassins Creed.

A lot of games brought to handhelds are dumbed down. As soon as I see the news for a console game also coming to PS Vita, I try not to laugh cynically. I wish for full freaking games like the Vita can handle. No fear, make it the same, but give it a twist with added content that is different for the PS Vita, instead of hacking parts out and making it feel short of...
