Install Error 80109884

6 replies 152 views Edited Dec 22, 2008
I am very upset at the moment. I was filling up my 4 gb stick and i upgraded to a new 8 gb stick. I have downloaded from the playstation store around 4 games... syphon filter, syphon filter 3, twisted metal 2, and echdochrome. I tried everything from transferring the games from one memory stick to the other, and even redownloading from the playstation store. Every time the install failed with the number 80109884. I call up Sony, you know what they say? You can't download the same game you BOUGHT AND PURCHASED from one memory card to the other! You have to REPURCHASE the games if you want to play them again on your new memory stick!!!!! I tried getting someone else on the line however, the technical representitive would not transfer me. I am very upset now, because of the fact I BOUGHT 4 games and now I can't even play them when i upgraded my memory stick!!!!!! You want me to spend more money just to get those same games I PURCHASED ALREADY on a bigger stick? This is crazy. You let me transfer those games on my PS3, why not on a bigger card??!?!?!?!?!

First off, do you have the latest firmware?  There was an issue with the playstation store not reading the correct available free space on 8 and 16 gb sticks.

Do you have a memory card reader?  If so just put the new stick in your psp and transfer everything from one stick to the other.  I have done this several times with no problems.

As long as you are using the same PSP you should be fine. Make sure you also transfer the licenses for the games across to the new memory stick. They are in the PSP\LICENSE folder.

No way! Dammit, I am expecting to upgrade from a 2 to 8GB for Christmas and I too have four games from the PSN Store! Wow, is that seriously true? Bone- do you know if it still works with the same PSP?

That's really weird, I've never encountered or heard of a problem like this. I suggest doing what Bone said however if this does not work and what the Sony Reps told you was true then I suggest you just keep two MS's with you at a time. Maybe use your 8gig for Music, Videos, and Photos.

Re: Install Error 80109884

I was searching for a solution to what seems to be a very old problem, as I've recently come across this error too (I've never downloaded a game off PSN until now). The official forums are shockingly unhelpful, and support never seems to read the entirety of their received tickets. I was trying to redeem my copy of Yggdra Union, and I would hit the error (which isn't in their database, by the way - ???) after the download and during the installation. I then tried completely shutting down my system and trying the download again. This time it worked without any problems. Maybe the installation doesn't get along well with "sleep mode". Anyway, hopefully this tip helps people that come across this in the future.
